Another week, & another tree beloved by its local community at risk of felling at the behest of an insurance company. This time, it’s the King George Oak, in Wivenhoe. This magnificent tree is likely at least 150 years old & the focal point of the community. The local council is due to chop the tree down this week, as the insurance company @avivaplc has implicated it in the subsidence of a neighbouring property. However, the council & Aviva refused to release the expert report into the matter, & alternative ways of dealing with the subsidence whilst retaining the tree have not apparently been considered. There is a strong local campaign @Oldoakwivenhoe, with many tree protectors protesting at the tree & doing whatever they can to stop it being felled.
