Does personality measured in captivity predict a bird's predator response in the wild? Congratulations to @bilby_jack on publishing his undergrad research project in @thePeerJ. This is the first in a series of fairy-wren personality papers from our lab. peerj.com/articles/14011/

Despite waking up at 5am to present at #ASSAB2022, I was excited to share this ornithological mystery about an adopted fairy-wren fledgling. (Soon to be published in 'Australian Field Ornithology')

I alluded to some "special Fairywrens" and here they are: Suspected Superb x Red-backed hybrid (first 2 photos) + suspected son backcrossed with an RBFW (second 2). Blood samples are in hand to test suspicions! Thanks to @JasonJGregg and Martin Ross for help w/ this mission!

Thrilled to see another paper published, lead by @BirdLabFlinders on the effect of deformation by the parasitic Avian Vampire Fly on foraging technique in Darwin's Finches! I drew this piece for the paper, it is free to use for everyone - check it out at doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…

Great to present at AOC to throw some fossil birds in with the amazing diversity of research on extant taxa #Genyornis #GiantChonker
Amy Martin@amybmartian

At #AOC2022 , all birds are welcome - especially weird and long-extinct ones like Genyornis! Such cool research by @Phoebyornis on how skull morphology can inform our understanding of an ancient species' ecology.

RVHx is a 1-year-old superb fairy-wren. He is looking a bit scruffy as he moults out of his breeding plumage.

Stoked that our paper about the first records of killer whales sucessfully predating on blue whales is out! See here doi.org/10.1111/mms.12… This work was a great effort between researchers and local tourism operators. Some of my favourite shots from the 2019 event below ⬇️
