I'm convinced that all centralised social media will in the long run fall for mass censorship and mass surveillance. If you care about privacy and free speech, it's time to help grow the censorship resistant alternative. Bye, bye X. You can find me on Nostr.

X has been unreliable for me lately. Recurring problem of censorship-via-security. If I'm ever again missing from X for a long time you can probably find me on Gab: gab.com/nickszabo Thank you @BasedTorba !!

@juanrallo Twitter (2006) ,Mastodon (2016), Diaspora (2010), Gab (2016), Parler (2018), , Gettr (2021), Truth (2022), Hive (2020), Bluesky (2024)... all promised free speech. All have slipped into censorship, blocking and control. #Nostr is different. Can't be evil > don't be evil.

I’ve been banned from traveling to the UK. 🇬🇧 No reason given. No right to appeal. Zero due process. Just an email saying the UK government deems me "not conducive to the public good" - exactly three days after I criticized Keir Starmer. I guess my point that the UK is no longer a free country has been indisputably proven.

@EvaVlaar @elonmusk Eva, you are relying on Elon coming to your rescue. That is not a long term solution. Eventually somebody that does not like you will be in charge of Twitter again and you will have no recourse. If you care about censorship resistance, start learning about Nostr.

Great news: It seems that the shadow ban has been lifted. I’m almost glad this happened though, because at least now everyone got to see the EU and their lust for censorship in action. Thank you @elonmusk for your unwavering commitment to free speech.

My content is being restricted in the EU under the Digital Services Act - the very censorship act I’ve been warning about for years. Under the guise of "online safety" they put a search ban on my account and flagged my posts as sensitive/age restricted content. The EU hates free speech because it threatens their power.

5 MILLION ZAPS! Nostr is the largest public experiment in Bitcoin payments. To improve UX you need a lot of trial and error, competition, experimentation... to do that you need a large enough user base. Nostr is speeding up the bitcoin payment learning curve inmensely.

I feel like a large amount of GDP is locked up because it is difficult for person A to very conveniently pay 5 cents to person B. Current high fixed costs per transaction force each of them to be of high enough amounts, which results in business models with purchase bundles, subscriptions, ad-based, etc., instead of simply pay-as-you-go. As an example, I'd like my computer to auto-pay 5 cents to the article/blog that I just read but I can't, and I think we're worse for it. In a capitalist system, transactions between entities are the gradient signal of the economy. Because our pipes don't support low magnitude terms in the sums, the gradients are not flowing properly through the system. I'm not familiar enough with payments to have an idea of specific solutions, but I expect we'd see a lot of positive 2nd / 3rd order effects if the gradients were allowed to flow properly, frictionlessly and with much higher resolution.
