It would be a dream to teach someone who wants to learn to make suits, everything I know/have learned as a maker. I had mentors who gave me that chance + taught me everything as a cosplayer, and I would love to pay that forward with fursuit making one day 🥺

@Femboy_Bace The “in-person” element is a challenge! Some things are best learned in person, but you also have to be compatibile w/ similar teaching/learning methods, + live in the same area or be able to commute, + a lot of makers work at home and don’t have a public studio to share

My problem is more that I do not learn well from Videos, but instead explicit instruction :(

Concept vs final!
tbh, sometimes for premade fursuits I make big changes from my concept to the final, so I get scared to share the concept in case someone likes it better than the final suit. Anxiety about my work type 🫣 I guess?

Wondering why more fursuit makers don't show the art concept next to finished suits Does it hinder it's marketability? I think it's cool seeing the concept vs reality!

@CaptainStevieee I don’t like liner in my personal paws, but I offer a partially lined option (just the wrist) that costs extra for those who do like lined handpaws. It allows me to still build paws how I like (removeable finger pillows, I don’t line the fingers), while having the liner option.

Hmm, when it comes to lining and making hands/paws for suits, is it standard for them to be lined now?
I have honestly preferred unlined but I'm curious as I will practice my lining skills more if this is a standard.

@Glitzy_Fox @floofunlimited I tried it briefly, but didn’t like the bulk it added, and it made it difficult for the necks to lay flat. While it looks nice on the inside, I personally feel it’s unnecessary.

I can not stress enough how important it is to be transparent on the features you offer for your fursuits. Not all of us line our necks. This is a preference from person to person. Not all of us offer removable parts, 3D printed bases, dye subbed eyes, etc. This is why it i doing

@Glitzy_Fox @LLMCostumes I tried to, but went back to only lining the face/head and not the neck because I couldn’t stand how it made the neck lay/move!! Looks clean inside still and moves nicer outside, breathes better and a balaclava can catch the sweat and be easier to replace.

There is no standard for what is/isn’t part of a suit, regardless of price. If you have expectations for specific features, communicate with the artist so you’re both on the same page!
If you don’t think value is there for what the artist is asking, you don’t have to pick them.

I don’t usually say anything on topics like this, I’m tired.
Engage with the artist and get to know their work beforehand. I can’t speak for everyone but I kinda love to yap about my process.
Whether it’s $10, $100, $10,000, everyone values art differently. It’s subjective

The price of a fursuit isn’t the number of features included. It isn’t the specific materials to make it. It isn’t the “perceived quality” opinions formed about it.
It’s hours spent by the artist’s hands. It’s work. Frustration. Love. Creation.
It’s art, for that price.

@aangellface Furtrack has been great for this!! It’s not a perfect fix because it still requires the suit is worn somewhere or the photos are uploaded, but I found pictures of one of my very early works still being worn that way! It was wonderful to see it again and see it being loved

i feel like nobody ever really thinks abt how crazy fursuit lost media is like, so many different fursuits shown off and made every year but once theyre bought, some of them just straight up disappear forever

@mantacrafts That most of the cost MUST be the expensive materials so sending me materials they already bought to use should give a heeeeefty discount on the total price. And the biggest cost deeeefinitely isn’t the cost of labor

@skyantelope The lightest grey is platinum from BigZ, the middle grey is a woven fur that was from Joann’s (rip), and the darkest is older howl charcoal before it became too green 😞 I really miss the old charcoal
