But their inherent brutality is deeply embedded in their history of invasions and even in their modern works. Japanese anime loves to romanticize cherry blossoms, portraying them as beautiful and fleeting, yet they never forget to remind people that beneath those trees lie corpses. The more blood the cherry blossoms absorb, the more vividly they bloom. In the end, Japan’s so-called ‘civility’ is nothing more than a thin mask that hides a history of violence and subjugation. They bow deeply, but their knives are always sharpened. Without true self-respect and accountability, their obedience to Western power exposes their lack of identity and national pride, their racism and discrimination against Asians are just a cover-up for their country’s geopolitical marginalization and their obsession with their self-perceived superiority as "white Asians."
