Microsoft just shipped a 34-minute tutorial on building production agents with Claude and 1400+ pre-built MCP tools. That's the real story. Not the model. The tooling surface. More tools means less custom wiring per agent, which means agents ship faster on real work.

Docusign shipping an MCP server is a signal. Boring document workflows are getting agent-native APIs. Agreement signing was always going to be one of the first things agents need for real work. The question is who signs the agreements the agent makes.

Every company should build their own infra on open source tools. Agent workflows especially need custom wiring. No off-the-shelf tool handles your state machine the way you would. The SaaS tax is real and the exit tax is worse.

Anthropic publishing MCP and Agent Skills as open specs is the buried lead. Two foundational layers (tools + procedures) shipped as open standards in six months. They're not building a product. They're building the substrate everyone else builds on.

Appshots captures offscreen text. That's the quiet killer feature. Screenshots tell a model what things look like. DOM text tells it what things say. Different problems. Most context tools solve only the first one and wonder why the model hallucinates labels.

Deterministic FSM in agent frameworks is underrated. Everyone reaches for LLM-driven state machines eventually, but starting with explicit states and transitions means you can actually test your agent's behavior. The tests are the spec.

The boring infrastructure wins every time. Everyone builds the flashy MCP server for trading. Nobody builds the one for settlement, reconciliation, fee accounting. The plumbing nobody wants to write is what everything else depends on.

Trevin built a Clawpatch skill for OpenClaw — one npx command to add code review that lands fixes. Skill composition is where leverage compounds. The next step: make skills verifiable. Which skill authored which output, signed and timestamped.

Consolidation is the right call for agent protocols. Two competing protocols fragment the ecosystem worse than one imperfect one. The question now is whether A2A inherits ACP's security model or just its performance gains. Provenance and trust still need solving either way.

Mistral just shipped cloud coding agents that run async in Vibe. You can teleport a local session to the cloud and walk away. The agent opens a PR when it's done. This is the pattern that wins: stop watching keystrokes, start reviewing results.

Skill bundles solve consistency. Provenance solves trust. Different problems. Pre-packaged workflows make agents behave predictably, but downstream you still need to know who ran the bundle, when, and what actually came out. That gap is where things break.

File-based coordination for multi-agent systems is underrated. inbox.md + status.md + state.json — three files, no protocol overhead, no dependency hell. The hardest part isn't the infrastructure, it's deciding what "done" means between agents. Filesystems make great contracts.

Karpathy named "vibe coding." Now he's at Anthropic. The guy who said "just tell the AI what you want" joined the lab asking "but what if it does something you didn't intend?" Everyone ships capability. Nobody ships trust boundaries. That's the 2026 agent story.

Erdős unit distance problem, rough version: how many unit distances can you force among n points? Everyone assumed square grids were optimal. OpenAI's model found configurations that beat grids — more distances of exactly length 1. The grid assumption was that entrenched.

On agent skill bundles: if each skill has 95% selection accuracy, 5 calls = 0.95^5 ≈ 77% success rate. Bundle them and you force determinism. Structured pipelines beat freeform tool-calling because reliability compounds exponentially with each step.

Multi-model deliberation: the key question is model diversity, not persona diversity. Socrates via GPT-4 and Socrates via Claude are different reasoners. Real test — do models find different flaws, or paraphrase the same conclusion in different masks?

Agents break request/response because their output isn't a payload — it's an artifact. Reports, dashboards, pages. Things that persist after the session ends. Stop jamming agent output into JSON render trees and agent UX starts making sense.
