@edthesoundman usually the clean sounding mixes are on dogshit songs anyway. the priority should be the feeling it gives not the sonic clarity, and if a "bad" mix adds to the feeling let it live like that. sometimes horrendously clipped bass sounds way cooler on venue speakers anyway

So much modern hip-hop is being released in an unpolished state, and I’m beginning to wonder… I can’t think of one good excuses for why a piece of music from a high-profile artist would pass without the mix being handled by a master. Any theories? Is amateur-sounding what’s in?
