This is outright fear-mongering at this point, good grief. Fans and players are already disappoined by the outcome of this season, let's worry about 26-27 before we start obsessing over the long-shot "its possibles" for at least 2 years out from now. The team has the power both upstairs and on-ice to make this entire conversation even more irrelevant than it already is.
Pierre LeBrun@PierreVLeBrun

It’s interesting that our only focus seems to be on what 97 will decide to do, whether that’s this summer or next or whenever. And it’s obviously because he only has a 2-year deal. But I mean, nothing is stopping Leon Draisaitl from asking out one day if that’s what he wanted. Not saying he will nor do I have any feeling he will. But just because he signed an 8-year deal doesn’t mean he will necessarily play it out all in Edmonton.

I wonder if Rantanen, Pastrnak, Crosby want out after a first round exit, I wonder if Tampa loses, will Kucherov want out? Or is it just an Edmonton thing? #NHL #LazyNarrative

I don't at all dispute that. What I will say is, in roster theory, your top pair has your mobile, puck mover, PP QB(Bouchard), and a defensive partner for him, Ekholm. The second pair is your shutdown pair. Nurse partners have been the weak link on that line. They should be your top defensive line and deployed that way. Nurse is the #1 PK defensemen. Being slotted 2 he doesn't get to play with McDavid. Bouchard and McDavid can create enough speed and separation with skating and passing to escape defensive matchups. Nurse faces the most lopsided minutes on the ice, top line PK, and the post McDavid shift into the 3rd line, where depth is thin. As a non-Oilers fan I wouldn't trade Nurse. He needs a partner.

@flyingmitts Fine. I admit I should have worded my initial response better because Nurse did technically average more total minutes than Ekholm; that's an error on my part. But, do you dispute the fact that Ekholm - Bouchard is the Oilers' top-pair? Yes or no?

His contract might have single-handedly cost Edmonton three consecutive cups from 2023-2025. Like, with the way Bouchard played in those runs, could you imagine how good they'd be with an actual $9.2M D on the second-pair? Or if they used that money on a goalie or top-end winger?
Nick@NickZararis

I genuinely think there’s a case to be made that Darnell Nurse has the worst contract of all time in the salary cap era A perfect storm of team/market factors converged at the right time and got him a generational bag

Big talk for someone who works for ESPN/Disney. How does @wyshynski possibly go to work each day? Let's look at all the facts and allegations against ESPN and Disney. In 1992 Disney hired a convicted rapist to produce a movie about high school kids, finding out after they were denied permits due to his sex offender status. Despite being a sex offender he was hired and put around children. 2 Disney execs were taken to court in just in the last 3 years. One exec used the defense of the window to file has passing as a defense for some charges. The rest are active and the case is ongoing. One exec was convicted of abusing a 7 year old girl and sent to prison for 7 years. ESPN itself was sited more than once in filings for having a toxic workplace culture where men manipulate and sexually harassed women. The filing also stated management allowed this because senior leadership would look the other way. This was sited in a Human Rights filing in 2018, a year after Greg went to work for ESPN. At least 10 people at ESPN have been dismissed, let go, or parted ways over the last 20 years for sexual misconduct allegations. Disney has been accused of allowing the public to still enter parks after sexually harassing or assaulting employees or other guests A 2018 filling stated managers told employees senior leadership would look the other way when it came to sexual harassment and there would be retaliation against women who spoke out about their treatment at ESPN and Disney. All of this is without getting into all the allegations and proven facts of all the young actors and musicians who where harassed or assaulted by Disney staff over the last 30 years. The media company that made this video has one of the people that was directly named in a toxic workplace complaint on their shows. That person still works for ESPN, they claim the report had no merit, but they settled in arbitration with the reporting person. He can't stomach to see someone who failed in reporting working again but can put himself inside and stay at a company that created a system to deny reports and block reporting while retaliating for reporting for decades? The work place that he directly works in has been sited in filings and courts multiple times for the whole workplace being toxic and abusive towards women. This happened shortly after his arrival there and he's stayed for 8 years and counting. Disney and ESPN dismiss every allegation as false. Nearly every case was taken to arbitration and settled. Why? ESPN and Disney contracts include clauses, such as NDAs, that deny them the ability to file criminal charges in court, often allowing them to only going to arbitration. This seals all settlements and allegations while not allowing the accuser to state anything else. When the NDAs don't cover them they have used statute of limitations and deadlines to file to escape charges. They never go to arbitration and win with facts, they always settle, so facts can never be stated. None of this accounts for all the people who couldn't speak out due to the system they found themselves in. The only recourse for criminal acts are settlements after arbitration. Victims can seek these settlements, speak out and face litigation, or stay silent. The contracts they agree to for employment prohibit them from speaking about anything or filing criminal charges. Yet he has no problem collecting the checks being Greg Wyshynski from ESPN (who's owed by Disney) Because he can stomach the culture of suppressing victims and paying for their silence? Because you support a culture that has silenced more victims than we know? So, what's the message here? You he shouldn't be coaching and you can't stomach seeing him because they didn't include enough NDAs to cover the report from going public?
j.@karl_kapri

much respect for greg wyshynski for not shying away from this

@NHL_Sid Doesn't change the fact your wrong, in both season and playoffs. Doesn't change the fact Nurse plays more than Ekholm. Against weaker competition? He's on the top PK unit. Those are the most lopsided minutes in the game. You're grasping hard and disproving yourself.

@flyingmitts The point is that Ekholm - Bouchard is the Oilers' top-pairing. Nurse technically averaging more minutes than Ekholm against weaker competition does not change that fact. Via PuckIQ, here is what % of each defenceman's TOI has been spent against elite competition:

@NHL_Sid You made a point that was wrong and didn't even address you being wrong, you pull another stat to prove your point. You don't watch games or do your research, you already showed that. So jumping to another stat isn't it dude. Full stop. You don't get it.

@flyingmitts Conversely, here is how much each defender has played against opposition fourth lines. So sure; Nurse has averaged (slightly) more total TOI than Ekholm, but it is because he gets lots of TOI against weaker players. He is *certainly* not being asked to do much.

@BobBark11503563 @nhltraderumours Steel frees up space for 2 slots under 1M each with Robo that would give them 11 forwards. If they carry 6 dmen that makes the 12th forwards slot. That's before any other trades or Seguin LTIR. They'd don't need 8M in space and to trade their 1C.
