Nonsense and wisdom. Can you spot the difference? Oh, and #BlueJays baseball

This is, literally, what Blue Jays fans do to me too. Canadians are the worst sports fans in the world.
Trent Attyah@BookitWithTrent
and here come the Canadians
English

@Mr_Husky1 You stopped to take a picture and then posted the evidence of your callous disregard for other shoppers. Good for you. Yay. What if everyone was just like you? What would the world be like?
English

Yes, I left the cart there. Right in the spot. On purpose. And no, I’m not “sorry” about it either. I just spent my money, stood in line forever, dealt with screaming kids and people moving like NPCs, and somehow you expect me to finish the experience by doing unpaid labor? Be serious.
And the way some of you act like returning a cart is some heroic act of moral superiority is actually embarrassing. Congrats, you walked 10 extra steps, do you want a medal or a parade?
If a random cart in a parking lot ruins your day, maybe the problem isn’t me… maybe you’re just way too invested in things that don’t matter.

I’m about as far left as you can get… but we do have problems with MAiD in Canada.
How do I know? It was “offered” to me in lieu of care.
I’m disabled, I was alone, my conditions expensive.
Yes I was allowed to say “No”, but no alternative care was offered.
That’s coercion.
Marlene Robertson🇨🇦@marlene4719
For all the dumbass maga in the back: MAID is a voluntary, regulated medical procedure with very strict eligibility rules. It applies to those over 18 and who are mentally competent. It’s an option when you have a grievous and incurable medical condition that is causing intolerable suffering and pain.
English

@ITheSpace @MarshaIIZach You might be right. You might not be. "What ifs."
Deep dive and compare the scores for those 32 games. Tight? Blowouts? (I don't care enough to do that.)
Any games that a Bichette defensive error cost a run?
English

@fmiddel @MarshaIIZach It is that simple lmao. The Blue Jays were one singular loss away from losing the division. If they didn't have Bo Bichette for those 32 games they lose the division. I'm not sure how you can possibly argue otherwise. He was their 2nd best player and they finished in a tie.
English

@TalkinBaseball_ He'll never be great, but he'll be better than that. Give him a chance.
He's determined, a hard worker, and his bat is stellar.
English

@rankdog23 @baseball_cards @JJBlackin17 Apparent anomalies can reveal that a player has "unlocked something." But the anomaly means take a closer look. It doesn't mean "BA is useless."
English

Sort of. BA is an imperfect measurement of production when the ball is put in play. If you want to dig into the nuts and bolts of why the player hit 190 and if its an outlier or trend you can look a bunch of stuff under the hold. Swing speed, what pitch types he is swinging at, where they are in the zone when swung at etc. For example was Trent Grisham's 2025 season an outlier or did he unlock something?
English

Freddie Freeman drops a nuclear bomb on all the people that harass me for using batting average as a measuring stick.
I will never, and I literally mean never, use any sort of above replacement value to understand a player’s contribution to the team. Baseball isn’t that complicated. None of the silly stats from the past 20 years have value. BUT MONEYBALL! How are A’s doing? The more often you’re on base, the better you are for the team. Save the rest of the calculations for astronomers.
Dodgers Nation@DodgersNation
Freddie Freeman reflects on his 2025 season with the Dodgers: “There wasn’t a 3 at the front of my batting average last year and that irks me. That’s my goal always, to hit .300.”
English

@ITheSpace @MarshaIIZach Don't get me wrong...I'm a big Bichette fan...but it's not like "they make it with him, they don't make it without him." It's not that simple.
English

@ITheSpace @MarshaIIZach I was talking about "that one game."
Santander is a net negative because he's a slow starter and was gone almost all season. So...2 slow starts...never got up to speed. Bichette played just over half the season games "after July," 2024. So...1.000 OPS in 32 games. 0 OPS in 20.
English

@ITheSpace @MarshaIIZach Yeah, well, if Bichette wasn't in the lineup that "one fewer game," somebody else would have been. You could say the same of any team.
Just imagine if Varsho was available the whole season and Santander played long enough to hit his stride.
It's all "what ifs."
English

@fmiddel @MarshaIIZach The Jays won the division off a tiebreaker. If Bichette plays literally one fewer game than he did they could've lost the division, which would have put them in a WC series vs. Garrett Crochet and Boston, and then the Yankees on the road in the ALDS. What point are you making?
English

@ITheSpace @MarshaIIZach How many games did Bichette play "from July onward"?
English

@MarshaIIZach "The position player group was the same one that got them to the WS" conveniently ignores the fact that a big reason they got that far is that they won the division and that doesn't happen without Bichette, who had like a 1.000 OPS from July onward.
English

@baseball_cards @JJBlackin17 That is exactly the purpose of stats. As fans, we can look at and celebrate performance through stats. But the decision-makers must make predictions...and stats inform (not determine) future performance. A .190 BA player is most likely not hitting .320 next year.
English

@JJBlackin17 I think a lot of new fans (those born after 1990) believe the purpose of reviewing stats is to predict the future. It’s really odd.
English

@baseball_cards Moneyball was never "about .OBP." It was always about discovering and leveraging undervalued potential.
English

@armathior @shane_pruitt78 I wouldn’t disagree with your statement but I’m not sure we are thinking the same thing. I’m curious to hear more of your viewpoint.
English

@fmiddel @shane_pruitt78 And yes, I know that this is a controversial statement that will get me a lot of hate. I can explain my viewpoint if anyone is curious.

Major DIFFERENCES between Traditional Christianity & Progressive Christianity.
How can two people that both claim to be evangelical Christians have such differing views from one another? One explanation comes down to two different major theological frameworks.
They are vastly different from one another:
1. View of Scripture
Progressive Christianity:
- Often reinterprets difficult
passages in light of modern
ethics and scholarship.
- Sees doctrine as open to
development and reform.
Traditional Christianity:
- Holds Scripture as divinely
inspired and authoritative.
- Sees core doctrines as settled
and not subject to cultural
revision.
2. Understanding of Jesus
Progressive Christianity;
- Emphasizes Jesus’ teachings on
love, inclusion, & justice.
- May interpret substitutionary
atonement, or even the
resurrection in symbolic or non-
literal ways .
- Often, focuses more on Jesus as
a moral example than as divine
Savior.
Traditional Christianity:
- Affirms Jesus as fully God and
fully man.
- Holds to literal bodily
resurrection.
- Teaches that Jesus’ death
atones for sin.
- Jesus is not just an example, but
is also Lord and Savior.
3. View of Sin and Salvation
Progressive Christianity:
- Often defines sin more in terms
of injustice, oppression, and
broken systems.
- Salvation may be described as
healing, liberation, or earthly
victory over systems.
Traditional Christianity:
- Defines sin primarily as rebellion
against God.
- Teaches repentance and faith as
necessary.
- Affirms eternal realities such as
heaven and hell.
4. Moral & Sexual Ethics
Progressive Christianity:
- Often affirms same-sex
marriage and LGBTQ clergy.
- May revise traditional teachings
on gender roles.
Traditional Christianity:
- Holds historic teaching that
marriage is between a man and
a woman.
- Maintains traditional sexual
ethics as clearly defined by the
Bible.
- Sees these teachings as rooted
in Scripture and natural law, and
doesn’t change according to
culture.
Often, Progressive Christianity is code language for compromising on old sin.
