#Mexico: Petroleos Mexicanos Chief Executive Officer Víctor Rodríguez Padilla is stepping down, handing the reins to a financial expert with close ties to the president as Mexico’s oil company grapples with a heavy debt load. Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the change in a video posted on X late Thursday. She said the exit of Rodriguez was planned and the board of the state oil company needed to approve the appointment of Chief Financial Officer Juan Carlos Carpio as the new head of Pemex. #oott bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

#Brazil: Employment in the Brazilian oil industry has rebounded to the highest since the golden era of Petrobras’s mega-projects in 2010. The buildout of offshore discoveries including Buzios has boosted investment and created a talent shortage in Latin America’s biggest oil-producing country, said Telmo Ghiorzi, head of trade group ABESPetro. Tens of billions of dollars in spending has allowed the sector to overcome setbacks from a decade ago that included a massive corruption scandal, an oil-price crash, and a prolonged halt in exploration licenses, he said. Employment levels are expected to stabilize for a few years before beginning to decline in the early 2030s after state-controlled Petroleo Brasileiro SA finishes current projects in the deepwater region known as the pre-salt #oott bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Two so-called ghost tankers are returning their oil to #Venezuela, highlighting the struggles the country faces as it tries to grow its beleaguered oil industry after years of illicit trading. The vessels Olina and Galaxy 3 are offloading their oil nearly five months after taking it, according to port documents and vessel movements tracked by Bloomberg. It’s unusual for a crude tanker to return its load and their moves are in stark contrast to the US-facilitated sales carried out after former president Nicolás Maduro’s ouster. The original destinations for the Olina and Galaxy 3 are unknown, but most likely they were going to sail to Cuba and China, two countries that kept buying Venezuelan oil despite sanctions.
