You can request a later start date to better fit your schedule. 4) Training & development Ask about sponsored courses, certifications or mentorship opportunities that can help you grow. 5) Hybrid/Remote work options Some companies allow fresh grads to work remotely on certain days, why not ask? 6) Performance review timeline Instead of waiting a full year, request a 6-month review with a potential salary adjustment. 7) Signing bonus If salary negotiations hit a wall, some companies offer signing bonuses as an alternative. 8) Work tools & equipment Need a better laptop, software or work materials? These are negotiable too. You might not be able to pray for an hour before leaving the house - especially if you live in Lagos. You might also struggle to read your Bible before heading out, but you can try this: If you need to leave extremely early, it usually means your workplace is quite far away. You can spend that 1+ hour in the bus with your earphones plugged in, fellowshipping with God during that time. On weekends, you can then extend your prayer beyond an hour. The same applies to Bible study: You can read two chapters of the Bible while commuting to work, and intentionally set aside two or three hours for deeper Bible study on Saturdays and Sundays. We’re at war, it’s a battle for consistency. May God help us stay consistent this year.

Later that day, HR mentioned “growth opportunities.” Gen Z replied, “Does growth include raises, or just more responsibility?” Again, silence. - No laziness. - No entitlement. - Just clarity. That’s when the team realized something. When people say “Gen Z is lazy,” what they really mean is: Gen Z watched old generation - skip meals, - miss birthdays, - work weekends, - and burn out only to be told “budgets are tight” and “be grateful you have a job.” So Gen Z chose differently. - They don’t romanticize overwork. - They don’t confuse suffering with ambition. - They don’t trade health for praise. They still work hard. They just refuse to work for nothing. It’s not laziness. It’s pattern recognition. And honestly, after everything old generation went through… Can you really blame them?"
