🌲💚Happy International Day of Forests! 💚🌳 It’s no coincidence that International Day of Forests also falls around the first day of spring, the season of renewal. This year’s theme – forests and economies – celebrates the essential ways forests drive economic prosperity and reminds us that healthy communities begin with resilient, thriving natural landscapes. Canada’s forests shape our health, our environment, and our economy. Just as each spring brings new life to Canada’s forests, your generosity helps them thrive, year after year. Be a part of that renewal with a donation today. forestscanada.ca/en/article/hap… #ForestsCanada #InternationalDayOfForests #ForestsAndEconomy #CanadianForests #SpringRenewal

Earlier this week, Forests Canada’s Meghan Clout was in Mattawa, Ontario, to film our new video exploring the many forest sector roles and career pathways that are integral to forest restoration efforts and sustainable forest management, especially following extreme weather and storms. There is plenty more to come, so stay tuned! A very special thanks to Tracey at @afa_algonquin and Warren and Heather with @OntarioParks for sharing about your roles in the post-storm recovery efforts in @SamdeChamPP!

Happy St.Patrick's Day!🍀 #DYK many species of clovers found across Canada are non-native species, and some are even invasive? Species like the White and Yellow Sweet Clover grow quickly and outcompete native plants, which has impacted both prairie and grassland habitats. If you are planning to overseed this spring, look for native species!

A single seed can grow a world of change. 🌱 Although small in size, a tree seed can do extraordinary things — and as our forests face the challenges of extreme weather and wildfire, choosing the right seed sources has never mattered more. Your support of Forests Canada helps ensure the right seeds are collected, cared for, and planted where they're needed most. Learn how you can join us in growing a healthier, more resilient future - one seed at a time. forestscanada.ca/en/page/make-a… #ForestsCanada #TreeSeeds #CanadianForests #SeedPlanting

Last week, our Sr. Coordinator of Education, Madeleine Bray, led a Forestry In The Classroom presentation at a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics conference at Alexander Muir/Gladstone Junior and Senior Public School. The presentation focused on urban forests and the wildlife found within them. 🌱 If you are interested in having a forestry expert visit your classroom or community group, visit our website forestscanada.ca/en/program/for… #ForestsCanada #STEAM #STEAMConference #FIC #ForestryInTheClassroom #ForestryEducation #UrbanForests #STEAMEducation #EnvironmentalEducation #ClassroomLearning

Invasive Species Week may be over, but that doesn't mean they go away. Don't let the Spotted Lanternfly's (SLF) beauty confuse you — these invasive insects are a serious threat to trees and forests! They feed on plant sap and leave behind a sticky “honeydew" which attracts wasps and encourages mold to grow, harming the plant. Large infestations can even weaken and kill trees like maple, walnut, and fruit trees! How can you help? - Spot it? Snap it, catch it, and report it! 🔎Spot it - Learn how to identify SLF 📸Snap it - Take photos to help with identification and reporting 🫙Catch it - Put the insect or its egg masses into a sealable container 📣 Report it - Reach out to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) if any SLF life stage is detected! For more information about SLF, visit @InspectionCan or @InvSp's website.

Happy World Wildlife Day! 🌱 This year's theme, "Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods," reminds us of the important roles plants and trees play in healing and connecting people to the environment. These plants have been used as traditional herbal remedies, as essential ingredients in modern medicine, and as holistic, spiritual, and physical medicine by Indigenous Peoples. From soothing teas to healing creams to life-saving pharmaceuticals, these plants and trees are a part of our day-to-day lives without us ever really noticing. #ForestsCanada #WorldWildlifeDay #MedicinalPlants #AromaticPlants

#DYK that invasive species are one of the largest threats to diverse, healthy forests? They often hide in plain sight and outcompete native plants, disrupt wildlife habitats, and can permanently alter entire ecosystems. The worst part? These insects, seeds, and plants can easily cling to your clothing, shoes, pets, and more, and spread quickly as you continue on all your forest adventures. This is why it is important to clean your gear thoroughly before and after using trails to ensure you remove any invasive plant matter. #InvSpWk

#DYK that the impact of invasive species is as costly as a natural disaster? Research by Turbelin et al. (2023) quantified the economic cost of invasive species relative to natural hazards using data from the InvaCost database. Global economic losses from biological invasions were in the same order of magnitude as economic losses from storms and earthquakes, highlighting the need for action and policy changes to protect the global economy. Last Friday, Meghan Clout, our Sr. Communications Coordinator & Web Support, had the opportunity to participate in the University of Toronto Master of Forest Conservation Winter Field Camp. They spent the afternoon at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park learning about the severe storm that occurred in June of 2025. Forests Canada supported the recovery of this site by planting 500 native trees this past fall. We were excited to see the 500 trees poking out of the snow, and eagerly await the spring when they can begin to grow. Thank you to the wonderful students who came out, and to the Staff at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park, the Canadian Ecology Centre and the Ontario Woodlot Association.
