You know what, I do have time today.
I’m sorry, I am not one to typically put nominees against each other. I used ‘Marty Supreme’ as an example not because I think the designs aren’t beautiful and fitting to the film, but it is in a completely different category of scale & creation required. The garments fit the tone & persona of each character, yes. BUT, the task at hand was simply easier.
The mountains Paul Tazewell had to climb were ignored solely because of his prior win & unrelated criticisms of the film.
The costumes in ‘WICKED: For Good’ don’t have a literal era of fashion to directly pull from. Everything had to be conceptualized by Paul & the team. They created lush backstories about the dyes, fabrics, patterns, etc. and how they tie into the politics and culture of this FICTIONAL world.
They created literal warehouses of thousands of hand crafted/highly detailed garments for the entire ensemble.
For those that say “well it already won for Part One, isn’t it just the same”, to that I say NO. If you pay attention to the movie, you’d notice that even the pieces that have been carried over from the first film have grown and adapted. Elphaba’s signature jacket in this film is a reworked and tattered version of a jacket she wore briefly in the first film. It has beautiful detail showing how Elphaba survived during her time in isolation. There are subtleties scattered everywhere, even down to Elphaba’s hat being taller in this film to create more of the iconic Wicked Witch silhouette.
Paul worked SEAMLESSLY with the Production Designers to tell this story through visual subtext (i.e., the loom in Elphaba’s hideaway).
I could go on endlessly, but what I will leave you with is that if you don’t think this film was snubbed, YOU do not know what the category even represents.

It's tweets like this that make me incredibly happy for this movie's massive downfall.

I know people don’t talk like that but I want to be one of the greats.
I'm inspired by the greats.
I want to be up there."
