If we wake up and find Trump unleashed devastation, Labour’s silence will be absolutely damning. If Trump has beyond hopefully de-escalated, it’s still damning. In the face of genocide, what exactly is the point of the silent UK Prime Minister?

China doesn't think the resolution is balanced. It doesn't even touch upon the root cause of the situation, but instead only accuses #Iran in a very unbalanced manner. In particular, the timing is very bad. We have all heard what the US President has said. Against this background, we think it is extremely dangerous for the Security Council to adopt a resolution like this.

It's astonishing that you, a world leader who many respected for standing up to an illegal attack on your country, now support an illegal attack on another country. It completely kills your credibility. Right now. Iran is Ukraine. You may not like to hear that but that is a fact
Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський@ZelenskyyUa

It is unfortunate that the UN Security Council has once again failed to demonstrate effectiveness and act decisively in the face of such a global threat as the Iranian regime's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. No one should be allowed to block such globally significant sea lanes or undermine the security of dozens of nations through terrorist attacks against the freedom of navigation. We faced a similar challenge in the Black Sea when the Russians attempted to block our ports and civilian shipping—Russia was trying to suffocate our economy. And we found a way to solve that problem through decisive action, not inaction. Now, we see a similar problem on a global scale. The Strait of Hormuz must remain open to all vessels that sustain vital economy lifelines and maintain normal international trade. Countries in the region have spoken clearly on this, and we support the aspirations of the people of the Middle East and the Gulf for peace. Peace and security in this region directly impact stability, market predictability, and the cost of living in every single country. Such problems and this war must not be prolonged. The world needs a functional UNSC that acts more decisively to resolve acute security challenges of global magnitude.

Clinton bombed Serbia's power plants for 78 days. Obama destroyed ISIS oil infrastructure serving millions. Neither faced war crime charges. Now the same media calls Trump's possible Iran strikes a war crime? The legal standard tells a very different story.

@MaxBlumenthal It is surprising how the Iranians only let the rest of the world see what they want. Why don t they allow free access to the internet and everybody to express themselves?

A middle-aged @usairforce colonel went through a shoot down and a parachute drop, was severely injured, treated his own wounds, ran five miles in enemy territory, climbed a 7,000-foot mountain, radioed the proclamation, "God is good," and then holed up in a crevice in near-freezing temperatures for two days while his brothers and sisters came to rescue him. That's America; that's the American military; that's the United States Air Force.

There is no evidence that the Iranian state killed tens of thousands of protesters. The latest confirmed death statistics, according to Human Rights Activists of Iran, are: 6,724 protesters, including 236 children 214 government forces 67 non-protester civilians There could be others that haven't been confirmed. But nothing like the tens of thousands we keep hearing. To be clear: the Iranian state clearly committed grave crimes, and the death toll is hideous enough. It's also clear that some protesters engaged in armed warfare. Trump has claimed the US sought to arm protesters. But there isn't evidence to substantiate the claims of tens of thousands, a figure which has been used to justify an illegal war in which the US is threatening to literally destroy the country. For clarity: Human Rights Activists of Iran are a dissident group founded by an Iranian prisoner of conscience.
Aaron Bastani@AaronBastani

The claim is that the Iranian government killed more protestors in two days than the British army suffered casualties at the Battle of the Somme in a month. Really? It’s quite obvious why anyone would say that: to legitimate killing thousands & creating a failed state.

Chinese audiences liked Mearsheimer for one reason: he stripped away the moral costume. He did not say the US contains China because China is evil. He said the US contains China because China is rising. That is ugly, but it is honest. What changed in just 3 months is that even this cold realist framework now feels outdated. Trump’s Iran escalation, Khamenei’s killing, the Hormuz shock, allied hesitation, domestic breakdown, and falling global approval all point to the same thing: the problem is no longer just American hegemony. It is American instability. Mearsheimer explained the empire. Reality has moved on to explaining its unraveling.

1) Trump is being driven insane by his inability to defeat Iran. 2) This is a threat to commit unspeakable war crimes. 3) If he does this, Iran will target energy and water desalination infrastructure in the Gulf, triggering a global depression.

Translation of what Macron says to Iranians: "We brought Khomeini to your country via Air France to slaughter you. We respect your sovereignty. If you, the people of Iran, want regime change, step up. So our favorite regime can kill you" This man is evil. @EmmanuelMacron

Our signal to the United States and countries in the Middle East about the Strait of Hormuz was that we were open to discussing it. As of today, I don't see any country lifting the blockade on its own, only joint steps can bring results. Ukraine has experience with launching the Grain Corridor in the Black Sea despite Russia’s attempts to block the flow of food and other goods. The situation now is similar, but it is about energy. Our suggestion – based on our experience – was as follows. The war and the negotiations on reopening the Hormuz Strait can go in parallel. It’s worth trying to find a diplomatic solution, and this could be beneficial for both sides in the war. An alternative step would be to control the Strait unilaterally, as Ukraine did with the Grain Corridor. Achieving this would require interceptors, military convoys to escort the vessels, a large integrated electronic warfare network, and other tools. We stand ready to help with this. But for now, we are not yet involved. So far, no one has made such a request. We are simply sharing our knowledge. If one day our partners want to make use of it, we would be ready. From an interview with NewsNation.
