@benkarlin1 As a principal, I take the class so they can talk to/go to the doctor if it can’t be done in non-contact time. I regularly do this for teachers needing blood tests.

A small but significant wellbeing win for schools would be figuring out a way for teachers to take or make vital calls from or to eg medical professionals during lessons when necessary. Any school figured out a way to do this?

The horrifying reality of being a woman, perfectly summarised by @_CaitlinORyan If you give even the slightest shit about women, watch it all. This is what it’s like.

@Mr_Rablin I loved that I had trained the person that was hired to give the presentation that I had created, and she was genuinely confused why she had been brought in.

That awkward moment when your district pays someone to come give virtually the same presentation that other districts pay you to come in and do.

@AllisonETEC And those who choose Steiner education but in grade 3 put them in school to learn to read and write, then move them back when you have taught them!

I have zero issue with you pulling your kid out to homeschool in 7th grade. What I have a problem with is when you send them back for 8th grade and you've taught them absolutely nothing, had them take zero assessments, no 7th grade content covered, and now we are scrambling. Thx

@Emma_Turner75 Also, often they will have the same teacher for 4 years - only 2 teachers across 8 years. The breadth of teaching experiences required so that students are not repeating topics in the same way is also never considered. It’s huge!

To see it lumped in so bluntly with single age teaching and squeezed into narrow messaging is not only heartbreaking and frustrating but can be damaging to well established and effective practice. Mixed age needs a unique approach not a one size fits all.

🧵Mixed Age Classes. I've taught in mixed age classes for 21 yrs. I have led in schools with mixed age, & supported 100s of schools with mixed age classes. Put simply, approaches used for single age classes are 99% of the time simply not appropriate. It's its own unique approach.

@ded6ajd I remember taking my French exams, the written test - the traditional exam was the easiest part. Preparing a presentation also not a problem, course work was easy but the work I had to do to have a discussion about current affairs is the one thing that made me speak the language.

"Exams are the most accurate way to measure whether pupils are actually learning. The opponents of learning will also oppose examinations." (Quote from a frequently over-confident poster, well-known on here.) How could we possibly know this? 1/3

@MrB_online @Headteacherchat I’m often surprised how low teacher pay is in the UK compared to Aus, particularly the leadership pay rates. The top of your leadership table is comparable to the bottom of ours in WA.

Here’s the face of a chap who had his flight to Toronto cancelled and couldn’t get a single seat on a plane to anywhere near the place in the next 24 hrs, so is now in a hire-car 2 hours into a 9 hr drive. Yippee beans. (Don’t worry. Defo gonna make it. I ain’t missing Massey Hall.)

@chutneylife Wow, you obviously live somewhere with choices. One shop here, no sale prices, 4 hour round trip to the nearest alternative. We grow lots, buy in bulk but still see that prices have gone through the roof. Inflation is greater than wage increases so the pinch is real.

I am going to be blunt here. Those who complain about high grocery prices, have you ever shopped just the sale items? Sale items rotate weekly so why not be strategic about it and avoid paying regular prices as much as possible

“If you put red ants & black ants in a glass jar, nothing happens. But if the jar is shaken, the two sets of ants will fight each other. But the real enemy is the person who shook the jar. The same is true in society. Before we fight each other, we must ask: Who shook the jar?”
