I was one of the agencies Aya "burned" money with. This isn't an attack on Aya, but she, like many others, doesn't tell the truth here. It's frustrating how easy it is to lob around these accusations while offering zero proof. Since Aya accused me of "delivering mediocre work" and "cancelling within the first week to make a quick buck", let me tell you what really happened. Aya hired Designjoy on October 22 to rebrand her company Fashn AI. She supplied a logo that she said she designed herself, but she didn't want to touch it yet. Instead, she wanted to focus on things like typography, colors, glyphs, etc. We'd eventually circle back on the logo, but it wasn't included in the scope of work yet. On October 23, the very next day, I provided Aya a first-go that included typography pairings, color palette, and conceptual social media templates including glyphs. She replied stating she really liked the font pairings, and the colors looked "nice and distinguished", but wanted additional options. She provided references. Later that same day, I provided precisely what was asked (5 different options, in fact). All of these were presented in a very pleasing manner. She replied the next day (on a Saturday) stating she could go with 3 of the options I presented. Great. It only took us a couple of days to get there. It was extremely smooth sailing...or so I thought. Monday rolls around, and we move directly into the next part of the project; social media templates, open graph images, blog graphic templates, and social covers. I delivered those...you guessed it, the very same day, each set based on the 3 aesthetics she stated she liked. Then to my surprise, Aya replies that she thinks "I'm good and loves my taste", but she's concerned with the "pace & communication", and asked if she could expect this part to improve. We communicated daily. She received deliverables same day, or at the very latest next day (well beyond what is marketed for Designjoy). I explained this to her, and told her that if the current experience isn't satisfactory, there's nothing more I could do, and suggested we end things here. She agreed to that. We worked together for 4 days total. That was it. I refunded her the remaining 75% of her payment, and kept the 25%. I don't do work for free, especially work that you approve and state that you enjoy. I feel this is a reasonable and ethical way of doing business. If Aya stated from the beginning she didn't like the work, we would have either pivoted another direction instantly, or gave her back 100% of the funds. That's not what happened here. I don't have any hard feelings towards Aya. She didn't even call me out by name here to her credit. Plus, working with designers can be freaking hard. I get it. But this project was stopped so prematurely and suddenly that it's unfair to subscribe anything to my "abilities" or "effort", especially when turnaround was near instant in this case. But those of you who know me know I'm the last person to not stick up for myself, whether mentioned by name or not.
