@ZachLahn @ShawnRyan762 My story is very similar. This will be our 4th crop planted in 2026 on our farm in Elk Point, SD. I stepped in to save the farm that began in 1881. Almost lost it. Now it’ll reach the next generation. I’ve lost huge sums of $. Some things matter more.

A succession/ estate plan is pretty much worthless if you haven’t spent the time actually letting the next generation DO the work. Not making them watch you do the work. Let them get it wrong while you’re still here to guide and mentor is the real legacy.

@KevinSJohnson80 The private corporation with no allegiance to taxpayers called “The Fed” should keep printing dollars. Bring on another trillion of debt. That should fix it! The value of “Money” as we’ve always known it has been decimated by the printer.

I remember a time when you could spread lime for $20 a ton thats with the spreading fee included. Today it cost $70. Absolutely outrageous.

@ChetEdinger @Farm4ProfitLLC For clarity, I'm specifically talking about those farms that operate like a business. You know....the ones that have a P&L and know how to manage it. The kind that have a balance sheet & know how to utilize it. Those kind will survive is my guess.

The farms that survive the next 10 years won’t be the biggest. They’ll be the ones that know their numbers better than anyone else. What’s one number every farmer should know daily?

@ChetEdinger @Farm4ProfitLLC Like mine that was established in 1881, rented out for the last 35 years and we almost lost until I set up an LLC and took on the responsibility of making sure it gets to the next generation? That kind of "corporate farm?" If so, then yes, I suppose.

We should probably ask more people who aren’t farmers or working directly with farmers on decision making what farmers are doing

@SawyerWhisler Bingo. Critical to all of it is the ability of the farmer to run their operation like a business. The days of hobby faming have been relegated to the trash heap of history. And that’s a good thing in my mind.

The farmers who are still standing after the last five years didn't survive because of government programs. They survived because they cut costs, diversified income, and made decisions that didn't depend on a check from Washington. Self-reliance isn't a political statement. It's a survival strategy.

@VoiceOfReasonxx @yoalexrapz @USATODAY That’s true. I spray glyphosate on the crops that are delivered for industrial uses (bio diesel, ethanol, etc). Food grade is treated differently. Glyphosate doesn’t kill much anymore anyway. Kills grass but that’s about it.

Farmers turning down $15 million and $80 million AI data center offers just to keep the land in production. That kind of stand deserves respect some things money still can’t touch.
