In 1992 my grandfather built his brick farm house for $53,000. In 2024 he got the tin roof replaced. It cost $60,000.

@0cPlights @BeTheChain If people understood the principle as I detailed it, there would be fewer posts about “how expensive things are.” But, they don’t. Which is why you see these posts. That’s my only point.

@franchiseguy @BeTheChain Great, now try buying a house with any other piece of paper since it’s all just paper.

@FarmrHuntr Fiat currency will always cause land values to increase. It’s still 77 acres. Just takes more fake paper to buy it today.

Kind of sad but they had to go. Renovating an old farm comes with a cost. The new grove will be a show stopper. Wish my uncle would’ve planted them about 250’ further north.

If you are a sales agronimist making herbicide tank mix recs to farmers, that use AMS for fuck sake quit saying "quart per 100 gallons" or "2.5# per 100 gallons" ask the spray rate 10gpa, and give recs in units per acre.

@GOBBLERODGER @ndcorngrower Many people were skeptical of Edison’s lightbulb & Ford’s assembly line too. All new technologies this revolutionary are adopted. Quickly by some. Slowly by others. But eventually by all.

Holy shit. I cut my seed bill in about half this year over last year..
Defund the USDA 2.0@Dusty3080467325

A note from a fellow sophisticate- The $280,000 Ransom Note If your ag retailer loves you, you’re probably overpaying them. The first year I took over our family row-crop operation, I sat down with a seed corn bill that made my stomach turn: $280,000 for 1,300 acres. We were planting 100% smart-stacked corn, running corn-on-corn, and blanket applying insecticide on every single acre. The local ag retailer told us it was the only way to protect our yield. I didn't see protection. I saw a ransom note. When you blanket apply and over-stack out of habit, nature builds a tolerance to your laziness. You lose your levers. Worse, you start funding the retailer’s retirement instead of your own family's legacy. So, I split the planter and trusted the dirt over the salesman. I executed a ruthless operational audit: 1. Broke the Chain: We introduced soybeans, moving to a strict 50/50 rotation. 2. Cut the Upgrades: We switched to non-GMO corn, dropping seed costs from $300+ a bag to around $115. 3. Verified the Threat: We stopped blanket applying and actually tested for insect pressure before writing the check for chemical. The Result? Our seed bill plummeted from $280,000 to $75,000. Our APH (Actual Production History) jumped from 175 to over 220 bushels per acre over a few years. The local retailer got so defensive they called a "summit" with the seed company’s regional managers to try and talk me back onto the reservation. They weren't worried about my soil health. They were worried about their bottom line. I was told I would ruin their seed sales business 😂 In a commodity business, your biggest lever is your expense line. If your advisors get uncomfortable when you start asking for the raw math, they aren't your partners. They’re stakeholders in your struggle. Stop buying their loyalty. Start buying from people you can trust !!!

@PlsntVlyFarmer I did the exact same thing. No treatment. Same pop as you. Last year they yielded 80.92 bpa. Looks like they’re off to the same start this year. Hope they yield well for you.

Look at these little fuckers go! No tillage, no seed treatments, dropped about 115-120k pop. Just planted at normal time for beans. It’ll never work. #cropflop2026

@TorkWhisler Yeah, my sympathy doesn’t exist for guys that had to buy all new equipment , new infrastructure and mortgage themselves to the hills in doing so just because money was cheap. Rates have always gone up and down. Extremely short sighted to think otherwise.

How many of you have had anyone other than your regular CPA look for things they might have missed? Not to replace them. Just a second set of eyes on the return.

I’ve exchanged paper “money” for real money for decades. I can attest that the paper money value has been decimated. Things are not more expensive. Paper money”money” has become worthless to a large degree.

More seed from regional companies… keeping more of my $$ in my pocket, and keeping more of what I DO spend “in state” or at least “in the Midwest”. This is how we take our destiny backs It’s sure as hell not gonna happen paying dividends to shareholders.. in other countries.
