@EnglandGolf seems a shame I can’t get a GHIN Rewind style thing from the MyEG app.

I met a man at a party who said he listened to P. G. Wodehouse audiobooks. Me: I don't think I could do that. I'm very picky about Wodehouse. I don't think I could listen to someone reading him unless it was– Him: Stephen Fry. Me: Yes.

@firmandfastgolf @kmbaert Great spot! Another great place to play, particularly as you get out toward the beach. This is the shot looking the other way (I think!)

If you play against average golfers, in a non-competitive format, on underwhelming courses, for a foreshortened period of time, you will not be a good player. True at all levels of the sport.

Cameron Smith made double bogey on the last to shoot a second round 75 and miss the cut at the BMW Australian PGA Championship. That makes it missed cuts in back to back weeks for Cam and 7 out of 7 for the year. What’s going on with the former world number 2? 😳

@Hawksian @Top100Rick I’ve played Queenwood and Wentworth West. Latter is fun cos you see it on TV, first forgettable (no matter how much of a USGA green fan you might be).

@Top100Rick @frank_webster Luckily so far they are all courses I can ultimately live without playing although as a Doak and Colt completist I should eventually see Renaissance and definitely want to play Wentworth East. With what they have done to the West course, it is no longer a priority though.

How much would you pay to play your bucket list golf course? One of the great beneficiaries of the golf boom has been charity. Golf charity auctions have gone insane! And all for good causes, so a great thing. These auctions used to be a way for normal golfers to play top private courses. But with the golf and stock market boom, they are now out of reach for most. Some get frustrated these go for so much. To those people: you are missing the point! The golf is a bonus. The point is to help out good causes. This is a great thing! Even if way, way out of my range lol. To the people buying these: Good for you. Money well spent. Youth on Course was the beneficiary and I am proud to have donated a threesome to the cause. If you are a member of a great club, consider donating a round next year!

@Top100Rick The problem is not just in the amounts (tax write off), but the lack of access. Anyone can go and - and least theoretically - play pretty much anywhere in the UK. Might not be cheap, but the game here is accessible. The concept of total privacy is so profoundly uncool.

@thepropergolfer Why build 7,500 yard courses to cater for 12 hcaps? Surely that’s no fun for that level of golfer (aim a 4 and find my home 6.4k club hard enough)? Pros can go low, does it matter whether -5 or -15 wins?

If that’s true, let them suck in a way that keeps the ball in the ballpark! No reason to build 7500 yd courses. As for the pros, they can hit the sweet spot most times, but they miss too. They’ll think twice before making the same swing they do with a 460cc driver.
Frank Webster@frank_webster

@thepropergolfer Why do we need a rollback? The overwhelming majority of golfers are abject hackers who need all the help they can get. The pros are exceptional athletes who will overcome anything.

We need a roll back. If you could make one rule to reign in the modern game what would it be? I submit: Driver head size cap at 250cc. Persimmon drivers were sub 200. Modern mini drivers are sub 300. We’re basically there! What would you do?

@kmbaert Hard for the tourist-trail clubs: the revenue is amazing (£1.1k for a 4-ball at Deal), but the Americans are terrible golfers with BS handicaps who scratch around like chickens, refusing to play foresomes

@kmbaert Such a great day out. Always amazes me how little the members seem to actually enjoy playing golf, as the course is always deserted.
