Noelia Castillo Ramos was euthanised yesterday at around 6 p.m. local time at Hospital Residencia Sant Camil near Barcelona. In 2022, Noelia was placed in a state institution amid family difficulties. There, she was gang-raped by a group of North African migrants. The trauma broke Noelia. Months later, she attempted suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a building. She survived the fall but was left paralysed. Instead of offering long-term support, the Spanish authorities offered assisted suicide as a solution. Yesterday, despite a large group of people showing up at the hospital to support her, Noelia sadly decided to end her life. Her rapists were never arrested and remain free men today. RIP Noelia. We will not forget you. 💔

There's also systemic and cultural bias against men when it comes to domestic violence. Even though half of all domestic violence is reciprocal and women are the perpetrators in 70% of non-reciprocal cases, men are still presumed as aggressors, and even when they do prove they're the victims, they're still vilified, as we've seen with the Taylor Frankie Paul situation.
Knowing all their abuser has to do to is pretend to cry and he gets arrested, fear of being mocked, told they deserve it, or told to put up with it, while also knowing domestic violence shelters will likely turn him away simply because he's a man, makes a man unlikely to seek help.
I'm sure that doesn't help suicide rates either.

There's a high profile case of domestic violence being discussed on social media right now where people— mostly women— are defending a female abuser and implying her male victim is somehow secretly the abuser, and this is after they saw video of her abusing him.
That's misandry. When a man abuses a woman, he rightfully gets universal condemnation. But when a woman abuses a man, people rush to her defense, make excuses for her, and blame her victim.
This is the reason male victims are so reluctant to report abuse and seek help. They suffer in silence because they know they will be mocked, told they deserve it, or be accused of being abusers themselves, and risk being arrested if they call the police because the feminist Duluth model presumes the man is always the aggressor based on a debunked "patriarchal dominance" theory of intimate partner violence; a theory that's undermined by the fact that 70% of non-reciprocal domestic violence perpetrators are women and lesbian couples experience vastly more domestic violence than heterosexual couples or gay men.
That's misandry. The false narratives, the presumption of guilt, and the silencing through fear and ridicule.

This meme relies on a false comparison. It contrasts the worst crimes imaginable (assault, murder) with trivial dating annoyances (being laughed at, paying for dinner). That’s not an honest comparison, it’s rhetorical framing. Men face serious risks too: violence, false accusations, reputational damage, financial devastation in divorce. Cherry-picking extreme female fears and trivial male ones isn’t an argument. It’s a fallacy.
