@ZSternart The club wants to sell jerseys. I don’t see any issue trying to sell more merch and tickets + extra promotion. I just hope the club and fans accept the repercussions of this type of signing (like MLS gets criticism for signing a veteran)

@ProspectsUsmnt As for why he’s not overseas… he has limited athleticism and not going to wow you technically (except for set pieces). I do think he should eventually go to the EFL Championship

This discourse is all wrong. The MLS lobby is trying to will him into a WC spot. He’s 25 years old, has never played in a top league, and has struggled most of his USMNT games. The onus should be on him to go to a top league and prove himself before he gets into the senior team, which let’s be honest is deepest at his position! You shouldn’t be allowed to hide out at home and try to capitalize on the lack of any definitive proof that you’re unable to contribute against better teams. If he’s so good, what is the wait for him to head abroad?

@ProspectsUsmnt Best set piece provider. Not even close… The next best set piece provider in the pool is Jack McGlynn and he’s not going to be on the WC roster. There is no one better who I want to take a corner or direct kick in stoppage time when you need a goal.

@TaylorTwellman @MNUFC Watched highlights of match. He and teammates look pretty happy. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a ploy for a new contract.

James Rodriguez is barely on the salary cap of @MNUFC. No TAM/No DP/ under 200k essentially. The coaching staff has repeatedly said he’s been the consummate pro and he’s been no distraction to the group. He’s a big name and many on the outside wanted to see him play and prepare for the summer. He just couldn’t get to that point with so many health issues unforeseen. From the moment he was announced, I said it has to end June. It will and now they both move on. Nobody got hurt at all here. #MLS #MNUFC

@Crew96Times Seemed pretty empty though. I know their first home match was midweek but that didn't help. But are the front and supporters section not opened yet? It seems the fans were above the first section

@jasonkveen @sgevans So Hometown Holdings only apply to "neglected" MLS2 clubs who only get 1000 or less ppl in stands for each match

@sgevans So independents arent getting major infrastructure investment, just natinal branding and advertising? Did i get that right? As for his comment about the leagues bumping heads in Jacksonville.......the core soccer supporters of the city do not support the USL team. At all.

Tom Glick, CEO of Hometown Soccer Holdings says MLS has identified 150 markets they think could support a new club in MLSNP. With PE firm KKR backing the radical plan to move MLS2 teams to new markets, the game is on: youtu.be/jZPGpihHvbM

@jasonkveen @sgevans I think the easiest way to think about this: Club doesn't want spend commercial resources into MLS2 club... outsource to Hometown KKR. Indie clubs and clubs like Huntsville and North Texas won't need to use them because the clubs manage the commercial side

@tombogert Pretty funny how ppl get caught up in the moment. It will take months to vet this bid. If a new stadium is agreed upon in the next few weeks, this is a case study on leverage

MLS "remains focused on working with the Whitecaps and local stakeholders to determine whether a sustainable long-term path for the club can be achieved," the league said in a statement. Statement comes after formal bid made by group seeking to relocate club to Las Vegas.

@QParisis Money is not an issue for R&R. They have a rolodex of contacts to partner with. They don't have money to buy a MLB team either but they are interested. I wouldn't be surprised if R&R is looking into it today

@THEChrisKessell Club is worth $450M on Forbes (29th out of 30 clubs) ~ expansion fee is $500M+ now. I imagine they haven't gotten a bid even close to that. So right now it's more profitable to sell to another city by probably a lot of money

No viable offers. What exactly does that mean? Nothing that let's them make a 10x, 20x, or 50x on the purchase price of $40m? I struggle to believe that NOBODY wants to buy it.
Ben Jacobs@JacobsBen

Vancouver Whitecaps' owners say their "strong preference" is to remain in Vancouver. However, a potential move to Las Vegas has been seriously explored, as @tombogert and @PaulTenorio first reported. The club confirm "well-documented structural challenges around stadium economics, venue access, and revenue limitations that have made it difficult to attract buyers committed to keeping the team in Vancouver." Whitecaps add over the past 16 months they have spoken to over 100 parties with "no viable offer" to keep the club in Vancouver.🇨🇦

@TranSparentC4US @MattFontana83 Haslem like AB because he's an Ivy League guy, like Depo. He wants the Browns to be the smartest guy in the room (though that hasn't happened)

@MattFontana83 It’s starting to look like it was. Ultimately it was Haslam. He gave the reigns to depodesta. The Watson trade then got him fired. Berrys had the reigns the last 2 drafts and you can see the difference. Berry was kept after the Watson trade for a reason. It wasn’t on him.

I see Andrew Berry's last two drafts and am completely stupidifed about what in the hell happened from 2021-2024 I know no firsts but this isn't even remotely the same outside of the first round Also, if AB always had this in him- Watson trade feels even worse

@MattFontana83 It's luck. Berry is still using the analytics department that Depo built. Also AB has realized some strengths and weaknesses: he can find diamonds in rough at RB, DL, LB and even CB. Has problems at WR and OL.

@MattFontana83 When you have so few draft picks, it really hurts your draft options. You start reaching for need, picking questionable character players. Luck plays a big part too.

@NFL Andrew Berry continues to be the king of maximizing value. Moving back only 3 spots, staying in the Top 10, and picking up a 3rd and a 5th? That’s how you build roster depth. The Browns now have two firsts (#9 and #24) to play with 🤔

@sgevans I like this "cash transfer" system in MLS. If I'm a talented teenager and feel I'm not getting enough minutes, sell me to another MLS club. Don't sell me low to Europe where I'm just another unfinished prospect

For all the talk of the failures and faults of America’s youth soccer development (and there are many) there is strong evidence that the MLS Academy system is now delivering the desired results – a production line of talented young players ready for the professional game at the age of 17 or 18. This is important as the old system of drafting out of college, while well established for other American sports, delays development until it is too late for soccer – players entering the pro game in their 20’s are years behind their counterparts from other countries. But now the question arises as to what MLS should do with this talented class of 2026? Especially when European clubs, inevitably, come knocking..... thesoccerbusiness.com/mls-clubs-face…

@nothinbutnick By comparison USL: the league office is McDonald's headquarters that collects fees and royalties from franchises. Each club is a franchisee: they don't own any of the league office, just pay fees and royalties to USL HQ

Still confused on how individual clubs can have value with a single-entity structure but I am no expert.
MLS Communications@MLS_PR

. @MLS has 18 of the 50 most valuable soccer clubs in the world, per @Sportico's annual ranking, more than any other league globally. Led by @InterMiamiCF with a $1.45 billion valuation, five MLS clubs rank among the world's top 20. This trajectory is backed by strong momentum across club valuations, ownership demand, and fan engagement, and looking ahead to 2027, MLS is evolving its competition structure and calendar to unlock the league's next phase of growth. sportico.com/valuations/tea…

@nothinbutnick I have Nvidia stock.. I make money, right? Each club owns a share of the league, like I own some Nvidia stock. Then each club owns their own assets like a stadium.... The club has a portfolio, not just one stock
