If you’re going through the worst bout of bad luck possible but still making it out, that’s not a struggle - it’s an immersive process.
However, if you have everything okay and are even making decent earnings but not growing - you are Struggling!
Define struggle?
Can anyone accurately define it?
For each, it’s a recollection of unpleasant events.
I define struggle only on one matrix - inability to grow.
A team should be nurtured the way you grow a plant, not expect the plant to grow first, bear a fruit and then we say, okay good - now I’ll nurture you….
Rewards or Returns
What comes first ?
When hiring talent, there is always a conundrum:
Should we reward the team member in anticipation, or should we reward them post some returns?
And if so then what should we do when returns are not quantitative, but qualitative?
Teams have to be given a wiggle room; a matrix of effectiveness vs efficiency has to be modeled out, and a balance between both is necessary.
100% of effectiveness is generally inefficient, and 100% efficiency is almost certainly ineffective.
How often do we let things go?
Most teach us to be perfect…
Mistake nahi hona chahiye
But we forget that we are dealing with people, not machines. We are not AI; we are RI (Real Intelligence). We learn through mistakes.
When curiosity fades, intent becomes an illusion.
Decisions become predictable & leadership quietly turns judgmental.
To truly understand markets, companies, & competition - we need better questions.
Why is this changing?
What are we missing?
What else is possible?
In leadership, the biggest risk isn’t lack of intent, it's the illusion of knowing enough.
We are wired to conclude. To connect patterns, draw inferences, & move fast.
Over time, experience reinforces this instinct.
But markets evolve. People evolve. Context evolves.
To understand markets, companies and competition, we need to first learn not to be judgmental and ask questions - - Why? Maybe? Or just at least be curious…
As one said…Be Curious not Judgmental…
We do not need to conclude, we just need to be curious and check for possibilities.
Curiosity, for most, peaks when we reach puberty, and after that, we tend to infer based on our past experiences, assuming what we know is enough. Which then leads us to be judgemental.
While working with people we tend to forget that we come to conclusions more often than necessary.
Primal instinct is to form connections and derive inferences, as that is what we are hardwired to do.
Sometimes we tend to forget that we have evolved.
Because in the end, time tells its own tales - not through what we say, but through what we consistently choose.
And progress is not just about moving forward with speed - it is about being driven by intent.
Everything begins with intent.
The intent to learn from the past,
To unlearn for the present,
And to evolve for the future, all the while never forgetting who you were, who you are and who you choose to become.
It is the biggest gift you can give yourself.
