One softer element that should not go unnoticed: I read Chinese gov't documents for a living, and while the state never fails to highlight it's achievements, it is also consistently self-effacing, and sees itself as basically *behind.*
That is, it is a hungry competitor.

@ClimbingCoachX @Camp4 @WSWayland My reaction here is to bringing in football players who clearly aren't training for climbing. "Haha, look at these state champs that can't climb 10a" ... This isn't surprising, probably does not reflect their level athleticism, and comes off like sneering elitism.

One time I was working at a climbing wall when the high school football state champions came in for a group party to celebrate their season.
I got to watch 50+ athletes — all of whom had been lifting and training all season — struggle to climb a 5.10a. Fewer than 5 even made it to the top of the wall.
As their event wrapped up, they got to see a 14-year-old girl warm up on the same route.

P.S. To further stir the pot: While benching a big number is impressive… Strength is not fitness. Strong enough is strong enough—beyond that it’s better to focus on staying lean and mobile. If you want a good laugh, take a meathead to a climbing gym, where you need bodyweight/grip strength, endurance, power, balance, coordination, and spatial awareness.

A thing I've given myself as a long term goal is to memorize which Chinese cities correspond to which license plates.
There's ~350 different ones, so it's going to take a while. Tourist sites have people from *everywhere* so it's a good place to practice.

Instead, China tries to identify key bottlenecks and then do whatever it takes to resolve them: - Infrastructure - Energy - Materials - IT & chips - Industrial equipment There are many, many failures & mistakes along the way. But they basically keep trying until they make it.

The AlphaGo moment is coming for robotics. Across a growing range of well-defined physical tasks in closed environments, AI-powered robots will not only beat the best humans—it won’t even be a contest: F1 racing, drone racing, many sports, gymnastics, etc. Physical AI systems will basically “solve” these challenges in real time and then execute with a kind of speed, precision, and consistency that no human can come close to matching. The question will become: which physical domains will be “conquered” first by AI-powered machines and which domains will remain too messy and complex and full of tricky edge cases for AI to beat out humans—at least in the short-to-medium term?

Cannot stress how much of an advantage it is to be a normal, well adjusted, applicant for food industry roles. A friend runs an olive oil factory and an applicant listed "the global financial system" as an interest. That is not an interest. There will not be an interview.
