I went to see for myself Southern Water's toxic plastic beads clean up operation and guess what, is a sham. 6 days ago John Penicud from SW told @BBCPM @EvanHD "I'm at the beach at the moment and we've got around 70% of those beads now fully cleaned up". This is what SW's clean up operation actually looks like. Local volunteers however are still trying to clean up the beach and they tell me the pollution now stretches all the way along the coast as far as Dungeness a distance of over 10 miles. The also tell me the plastic beads are also threatening the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve home to over 4200 species of plants and animals. I think we all know who the real heroes are here.

Criminal gangs are being blamed for the huge mountain of waste that has been dumped close to a village in Oxfordshire. The rubbish is being called an "environmental catastrophe" - and is up to 150m long and 6m high. @nityagrajan with more.

If you want to know what it would look like to be in a climate crisis, with creaking privatised infrastructure & a heavily damaged natural world with land unable to hold & store water, it would probably look something like this. @SouthEastWater3 is proposing to requisition private land to build an emergency 13km pipeline between two reservoirs to stop the taps for hundreds of thousands of people running dry. Expect to see much more of this, as those who have presided over these growing problems seek quick band aid solutions, rather than the long term changes & investment we need.
