My "Light Propagation Volume" plugin for #UE5 is now featuring Cascades system! It adds much longer light bounce distances, than what could be previously seen in the UE4's LPV implementation. Still some work to do, performance-wise as well :) But it's shaping up very nicely.

I hate Enhanced Input so fucking much. Nothing but trouble. Why would you wipe, and reconstruct ALL Triggers and Modifiers when Mapping Contexts change!? Look at the object count in the top right. 50,000 new UObjects in a matter of seconds thanks to a bug introduced in 5.7.

@kommanderkarl Not really. It's a grid of 50cm spaced probes that store the baked lighting for that position (lightmaps are specifically textures). 4 individual bakes for each time of day and blended between them. They eventually abandoned this system because it was insanely impractical.

@frinky13 @miziziziz ive also made multiple "steam for enterprise" solutions in the past 5 years, and im getting there with matching steam's performance also the login only needs to be done once every now and then (if you do weekly/monthly builds, you shouldn't have this issue constantly)

@SeedVEVO @miziziziz Fair. I'm more referring to UX vs the technical side. As someone who just wants to upload the game and be done with it, I was pleasantly surprised when I was uploading stuff with butler how easy it was. Whereas uploading with steam was a headache.

@frinky13 @miziziziz na butler has its flaws: kate.pet/blog/adastral-… i genuinely love how steam ships/distributes builds butler is diff/patch based system. steam is a distributed virtual filesystem. wildly different. one is simpler, the other is insanely efficient at a massive scale
