My advice as a Sgt that got out in 2019.
Be there for your Marines. Do not tell them to do something you haven't done or don't know how to do. Show them the right way to do things, not the easy way. Talk to your junior Marines and actually get to know them. Now that you're an NCO you will be the one getting blasted by higher ups for things you're junior Marines do. Set the example for them be that mentor that teaches them the ropes and keeps them in check and you won't have to worry about getting blasted as much. Your bitches, moans, complaints go up. They don't go down. You have to make that distinction between NCO and friend at times because they are looking at you on what to do next and if they see you all pissy and or unmotivated then they will emulate that. Last thing would be start improving how you look on paper . Do the bullshit MCI's , do the advanced courses for your MOS, go to Corporal's Course . Start learning from the Sgt's around you and emulate them as the juniors emulate you. Best of luck. Semper Fidelis
