[2025] Growth pattern of hanasei. They are unique in that their spawn is not considered sapient until a certain growth milestone. Failed eggs and larva are sent to kitchens and restaurants to be eaten.

[2025] Some drawings for my (soft) specbio sophonts hanasei — anthro amphibians with crowns (horns) who speak through their gills. For my project koegama

@BucketGrimoire i think the reason it looks owl-like is that it has this little crest and the horns go sideways <-> which is more akin to owl faces and ear crests. bug antennae and stalks of sea slugs tend to be more upright (unless moving) and sprouts separatedly

@frogcroaksart Omg youre so good at drawing horns.... Do you have any tips for drawing more insect like horns? This guy is supposed to be bug esque/sea slug esque but the feedback I've gotten is that he's more owl like.... actually really love your character design ❤

[2025] some detail shots on hanasei's crowns. They only grow once, but that doesn't stop them from scrimshawing and cutting them off for cultural, religious and aesthetic reasons. They can look like anything, but most elaborate ones get trimmed or cut off

@Eth_TheChaotic so they dont have very consistent colors/patterns, and in hanasei's case no species wide ability to change colors. when it does happen it is an individual or lineage related mutation

second picture is showing crown growth rates, fourth is showing what happens when a crown is damaged or cut mid growing: it can either continue the growth but smaller, start to branch out or become a different style of horn. Up to your genetics!

@nyenlover that is right! the upper gills are used to speak the sentence, while the lower gills backfill a tone thorough the sentence that gives it its meaning/emotion.

@frogcroaksart This feels like something that would be shown in a studio ghibli movie, I love it so much! Especially with each of the gills serving different purposes (if I understood it correctly) !! ^^

[2025] It's very hard to tell when a Toxel is rocking out or throwing a tantrum. Differentiating between amped and low-key is much easier. Amped Toxtricity are more likely to provide vocals for a song, even if they don't sound that good.

[2025] The Vulpix line originates from deserts, and their presence is said to turn any forest they settle in into arid wastelands. To prevent this, people build shrines and place offerings to quell their spirits.
