@alemannoEU I'd say, great minds are the ones who see how surprising an idea, event, person can be :)

@Econ_Marshall Maybe they'll just cite the old papers - from 50 - 70 years ago from those universities... wait, actually some already do that :p

@Tlacuwise I think we agree (it's a simplification, but on some issues, there are sides unfortunately).

@frogontheroof There really should mot be “two sides” in research. If you can already identify two distinct ‘camps’ that won’t speak to each other, you’re not dealing with research, you’re dealing with politics teying to bolster itself using “research”.

Question: should researchers, like journalists, always speak to both side of the aisle?

@Tlacuwise I've just said "speaking to." Research is about discussion - looking at the facts, checking arguments, and discarding what's incorrect. This dialogue doesn't exist if we don't speak to both sides.

@frogontheroof Sure. But “speaking to” doesn’t have to mean “pretend to agree and validate their every insane belief and manipulation.” If one side of the aisle insists it’s raining when it isn’t, researchers should not start fudging studies to say “well, we just can’t tell if there’s rain.”

Nobel prize goes to - said it as if you were at Eurovision - Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James Robinson for their work on the role of institutions for prosperity. It echoes worries we hear from the U.S. wrt preserving democratic institutions shorturl.at/u86P7

Dasgupta? Development? The nobel symposium this year was on microdev research. But Duflo and Banerjee in 2019?

Ok... I thought there was nothing scarier than dog robots... Boston Dynamics did something even more overwhelming (in the negative sense)... humanoids... This is the beginning of the end, and probably the future of warfare.

Hence FSR.

Let's not forget that Polish refinery PKN had promised to invest in renewables to obtain Brussels' clearance for the acquisition of its only competitor's Lotos... The first investment it made was to take over most of the country's regional newspapers... politi.co/41SnDyL
