@boriskarkov A lot of cool stuff is destructive. I don’t know where to draw the line, but I don’t see space research as necessarily being out of bounds.

@boriskarkov I’m wary (to say the least) of Musk’s vision of space tourism. It’s nonsense and a massive destructive waste. I guess for me it’s easier to square the drawbacks with the relatively infrequent use of rockets used for research. Again, probably naive of me.

@alexcfields You’re right. I’m just being overly salty about how some people have been talking about this album. It seems to me the critiques are more about what it’s not, not about what it is. It’s being critiques as bad jazz more than bad ambient.

@fromthereel Really not sure that’s what’s happening here. Most everyone I know who likes jazz also likes ambient. You can like ambient and still think some ambient is bad, tho a lot of ambient fans seem unwilling to call anything bad

I can understand why some jazz people don’t like the Floating Points / Sanders album. It’s not jazz. And jazz people get so protective of their sound that hearing Sanders play on an ambient record gives them an aneurysm.

I love jazz. The majority of what I listen to is jazz. But jazz people can get way too uptight about labels and boundaries. Sanders doesn’t need you to protect his integrity or whatever. He collaborated on a popular album, that’s all.
