End of an era as Head Coach Gary Robinson steps down at Lake Mary.
Amazing coach, mentor, friend and supporter of Lax904! All the best to Coach Robinson and his family
“Gary Robinson to step down as Lake Mary High School Boys Lacrosse Head Coach after fifteen years and forty years in school athletics.
“I would like to thank the Lake Mary High School administration, parents, and most importantly, players whom I have had the chance to work with as we built one of the top programs in the state. Special thank you to Athletic Directors Doug Peters and then Rick Weyers along with Principal Mickey Reynolds who were absolutely the best administrators you could ask for as a high school coach.”
“I believe that is time to pass on the torch for boys’ lacrosse and to take a step back and reset for the future.”
“Most importantly, I strongly desire to spend more time with my family while exploring new opportunities. The position now requires 12 months of work every year with the intense spring season commitment, allowing little time for activity outside of the program.”
Robinson has been a lacrosse coach, football coach, teacher, and athletic director in various stations over the last forty years. He will continue his business interests with the Orlando Lacrosse Company and the Robinson Cruise and Travel Company.
Accomplishments as a head coach include three state championships in boys’ lacrosse, most recently in 2023 and 2024 at Lake Mary, 11 regional championships (Lake Mary HS x6, Gulliver Prep x4, Palmer Trinity School x1), and numerous district and county championships.
His programs have produced scores of All Americans and players who went onto college careers at Princeton, Duke, Syracuse, North Carolina, St. Johns, Rutgers, Queens, Gettysburg, Nazareth, and the University of Pennsylvania, as well as several Florida Division 2 schools.
Robinson was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Boys Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2023 and was inducted into both the Gettysburg College Hall of Fame as a player and the South Florida Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a coach. In addition, he has been named the Central Florida Coach of the Year and Seminole County Coach of the year several times.
Robinson was a successful head varsity football coach in both Florida and Ohio. He was named the Cincinnati Football Coach of the Year in 1996. As an athletic director, he created or reorganized large programs for schools in Florida, Saudi Arabia, Maryland, and Ohio.
Robinson expects a majority of the Lake Mary staff to return and sees the program maintaining the level of excellence achieved to date.”
