Sure, the house does cost more in rates and taxes and maintenance , but renting; you're beholden to someone else. Imagine living somewhere for years, and your landlord decides to double your rent. Do you pay or pack up your whole life? And you NEVER get a cent of your rent money back.

Not necessarily. If you pay R9.5K as a bond premium, you still have to factor in rates and taxes which could suck another R3K. I dont think we spend enough time discussing the real costs of owning a property.

DEVELOPING: Residents in Payneville are apparently looking for gold bits that were supposedly in and around two cattle kraals. Locals claimed they have learnt the skills to process gold. The Zama zamas are mainly from Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Lesotho. The gold rush started last week - but no arrests. Residents claimed they make between R1 500 and R15 000 per day. I mean It is difficult to rely on a R2.2k social grant, living in inadequate housing, and lacking basic services like running water, with community leaders commending local officials for their performance and denying the existence of crises during a presidential visit. Then the distribution of t-shirts in such circumstances. Sad!
