Do we pledge allegiance to the democracy or to the republic? We do not have direct elections of presidents by popular vote. We never have. To do so would require a constitutional amendment which, right now, has zero chance of being ratified no matter how much California bitches and moans about it.

It doesn’t matter if citizens are the ones who vote or their representatives, it’s still a function of a democracy. It also doesn’t matter if it’s hard to amend the constitution. The fact that it’s amendable at all and that those amendments come about by way of voting makes it democratic.

11,000 amendments have been proposed; only 27 have been ratified. There is a very high bar to changing the constitution and for good reason: it is resistant to changing based on the fickle whims of the masses. We have democratic principals, but we are not a “Democracy”. You vote directly for your representatives in the House and since the 17th amendment for Senators. You do not vote directly for the President, nor should you.

Of which those representatives VOTE to amend the constitution. Any system of governance that has voting as a major part of decision making is a type of democracy. That includes every time of republic. Since the US does not have a supreme authority that cannot be changed it is a democracy. The closest we have is the constitution which has been changed many times because of voting.

@Mackieangrybea2 @ItzIsa09 @Rothmus It’s a constitutional republic with democratically elected representatives. The constitution cannot be changed by voters. It can be changed by the representatives that the voters elect.

@fuddlored @ItzIsa09 @Rothmus Having a constitution doesn’t suddenly make it not a democracy. It’s just a constitutional democracy. Especially when you consider that the constitution can be changed by “VOTING”

Again, we are not a direct democracy. Presidential elections have never worked like that and, hopefully, never will. California can absolutely get what it wants if it convinces the rest of the states to ratify an amendment that reduces their representation in the federal government; good luck with that. The only federal officials any individual voter directly elects are Congressman and (since the 17th amendment) Senators. I personally believe we should repeal the 17th. I'd also add that California and other blue states get undue representation in Congress due directly to them breaking federal law and acting as sanctuary states for illegal aliens. Illegal aliens are counted on the census and those numbers are used to determine how many representatives in the House of Representatives and how many electoral college votes a State gets. So, no. California wants to have its cake AND eat it too. It already has more representation in federal elections and in the House of Representatives than it should based on the Constitution, but you're still crying for more. Get fukd.

@fuddlored @ItzIsa09 @Rothmus No, Californians simply want their cake. There is no reason a Wyoming citizen should have 6x the worth in elections over anyone in the nation. That alone is disenfranchisement. If the most populous state needs to secede for a fair shake, then something is seriously broken.

If Californians don't like the electoral college system - which has been in place since the creation of this country - they can either try to get a constitutional amendment (which will never get through enough state legislatures to be ratified for obvious reasons) or they can secede. No one is disenfranchised. There is absolutely nothing preventing someone currently living in California from moving to Wyoming - though sometimes I think there should be. Californians simply want to have their cake and eat it too. Too fucking bad for them.

@fuddlored @ItzIsa09 @Rothmus What it really sounds like is that you're ok with an unfair system that disenfranchises a large voter base specifically because you don't agree with their policy. I don't see how anyone could see that as just and productive.

@draymondsburnor @ItzIsa09 @Rothmus California has the most "federal sway" of any single state already. Why should it have more? If the current state of California is any indication, California voters shouldn't be trusted to pick national leaders at all.

@srkntnyldz I keep hearing about heinous crimes and I keep thinking we should really expand the use of the death penalty to crimes besides murder. I think habitual offenders should also face the death penalty. No more 30 or 40 times getting arrested and released to victimize someone else.

ABD’de, doğum gününde Nintendo oyuncağı elinden alındığı gerekçesiyle babasını öldürmekle suçlanan 11 yaşındaki Clayton Dietz, ilk mahkeme duruşmasına kelepçeli olarak çıkarıldı. 11 yaşındaki Clayton Dietz, 13 Ocak’ta 42 yaşındaki babası Douglas Dietz’i silahla öldürme olayına ilişkin olarak “yetişkin” statüsünde cinayet suçlamasıyla yargılanacak. Dietz’in eşi, polise verdiği ifadede, gece yarısından kısa süre sonra yatağa gitmeden önce Clayton’a “Doğum Günü” şarkısını söylediklerini anlattı. Pensilvanya Eyalet Polisi, şüphelinin Nintendo Switch’ini ararken bulduğu silah kasasından bir tabanca aldığı ve anahtarları kullanarak silahı ateşlediği yönünde bilgi paylaştı. Olay yerine gelen polis memurları, Clayton’ın annesine “Babamı öldürdüm” dediğini duyduklarını aktardı. Clayton, müfettişlere verdiği ifadede ailesiyle güzel bir gün geçirdiğini ancak babasının kendisine “yatağa gitmesi gerektiğini” söylemesi üzerine sinirlendiğini beyan etti.

UPDATE: Remember this incident from 2024? Rickesha Overton forced Alisia DeCoteau into an alley and executed her. She then kicked her lifeless body in the chest and face and screamed, ‘bitch you dead!’ SPOILER ALERT: The charges against Overton were dismissed due to mental incompetency. So let me get this straight: - She’s competent enough to drive a car -Competent enough to operate a smartphone - Competent enough to use a firearm - Competent enough to murder a human being But somehow not competent enough to be held accountable.

The amount of money white america has spent trying to civilize black america (and failing miserably at it) far outpaces the amount of money she claims is owed in reparations. In reality, black America owes US a huge sum of money for all the damage they have caused in just a few short decades.

Grown man clocks a little girl in the face, gives her a nasty black eye. Dad shows up and turns the guy into modern art on the pavement. Society: "Omg that's illegal We must let the courts handle it fairly!" Courts: Probably a stern talking-to and community service. Real talk—when the system's too busy protecting the puncher, what's a father supposed to do? Stand there and clap? What do you think? Right move or "two wrongs don't make a right"?
