1/ We just wrote to @ace_national as part of a coalition of local artists, trades unionists, art institutions and businesses from across Calderdale opposing changes to Arts Council policy that risks defunding artists deemed to have made ‘political statements’.

The point I was making is about funding. In Germany sustained state funding means opera feels more like a public service. In the UK, and ENO in particular, it’s half that and half behaving like a commercial West End theatre.
