The protection now being extended to Senator Bato is the same protection this state denied thousands of Filipinos during the bloody years of the drug war. No warrants served with caution. No guarantees of due process. No Senate shielding them from arrest. No powerful institution rushing to defend their rights after they were branded guilty without trial.
