Summer is where great schools are built. Not in October. Not after the first benchmark. Not when the wheels start to wobble. Right now. The strongest principals I work with don’t wait for problems. They use the summer to: • Clarify instructional priorities • Align their leadership team around non-negotiables • Tighten PLC systems • Refine RTI/MTSS structures • Build staff clarity before students ever walk through the doors This isn’t “sit and get” professional development. It’s deep, strategic work with principals and their teacher leaders, side by side, designing the academic and behavioral systems that will drive measurable growth all year long. Last year, 16 of 18 campuses we supported increased their TEA accountability ratings, some by as much as 30 points. That didn’t happen by accident. It started in the summer. I love the Solution Tree model for RTI as it focused both on Teacher Team responsibilities (right side) and the Schoolwide Team (Guiding Coalition or Leadership Team) responsibilities. This model is essential to any high-functioning school.
