Indian accountants don’t realise how EASY it is to learn US accounting, and how FAST they can get their first 3 clients. Here’s the truth nobody in India is saying out loud: US accounting is 80% the same as Indian accounting. Same debits and credits. Same P&L logic. Same balance sheet. The difference? Tools + workflows. That’s it. If you learn 3 things, you’re US‑ready: QuickBooks Online (the default system for US businesses) How US money flows (Stripe, Shopify, Amazon, PayPal, bank feeds) Month‑end close (reconciling payouts, cleaning up accounts, delivering reports) That’s literally the core. And Indian accountants can master it in 30–60 days with focused effort. Now the important part: How to get your first 3 US clients (the playbook that works): Client 1 - Upwork Create a profile offering “Monthly bookkeeping, cleanup and QuickBooks setup for US small businesses.” Do one small $100–$200 cleanup. Undercharge for first 3 clients. Overdeliver. Collect 5 stars. Your profile is now discoverable. Client 2 - LinkedIn Message US founders: “I noticed you run on Shopify/Stripe. If you ever want your books cleaned or automated in QuickBooks, I can do it in 48 hours. Want me to check your current setup for free?” You will get replies. Client 3 - Cold email Email 30–50 small US agencies, e‑commerce shops or service businesses. Offer a free month-end close review. One will convert. If they like your work you will get paid from 2nd month. After that, word spreads FAST because US business owners talk. And here’s the kicker: Each client pays $800–$2,500/month. Three clients = more than most CA jobs in India. You don’t need a CPA. You don’t need US experience. You don’t need to leave your city. You just need the skills + a plan. The global market is starving for accountants. Indian accountants are sitting on an arbitrage they don’t even know they have. Want me to write a follow-up post on “The 30‑day roadmap to become US‑client‑ready”? Let me know in comments.

Everyone is asking: “How do I start with US bookkeeping from India?” Here is the simplest roadmap that actually works. 1. Learn QuickBooks Online. This is the software used by almost every US small business. You do not need CPA or CA to start. You just need competence. 2. Learn how money flows in e-commerce. Shopify payouts. Amazon settlements. Stripe and PayPal. These flows are the backbone of modern US bookkeeping. 3. Learn A2X. This is the tool that automates Amazon and Shopify accounting. If you know A2X, you can take 80 percent of US e-com clients. 4. Practice on a sample store. Do one dummy month-end close. Reconcile payouts. Build a clean P&L. This becomes your portfolio. 5. Make a simple offer. “Monthly bookkeeping for US e-commerce brands. I close your books, reconcile your payouts, and deliver clean financials.” 6. Reach out to US founders. Use LinkedIn, Upwork, cold email, and DMs. Show your sample P&L. Ask one question: “Do you want me to clean your books this month?” 7. Price correctly. Start at 500 to 1,000 dollars per month. Two or three clients is all you need to change your income completely. 8. Communicate like a professional. Weekly updates. Loom videos. Clear checklists. This is where most freelancers fail. That is it. No fancy degrees. No exams. No waiting. Just skills and execution. Also if you want to go the whole hog - appear for the enrolled agent exam - it can be given from India, does not cost much and it gives you a recognised credential from IRS for the US market. If you take this seriously for 60 days, you can build a remote US bookkeeping career from anywhere in India. At Skill Arbitrage, we do have a course where we teach US accounting and help people crack Enrolled Agent exam. But I would not tell you that you cannot do this without our course. This is quite easy, if you put in the effort you will succeed. Of course, if you want live classes, personal coaching, certifications and handholding - feel free to contact skill arbitrage from our website.
