the son of a thai senator got sentenced to 132 years in prison for running an illegal online gambling network. transactions exceeded 2 billion baht, proceeds laundered through land, jewellery and luxury cars
under thai law the sentence is capped at 20 years. but he didn’t even show up to hear the verdict - skipped bail and is now a fugitive with an arrest warrant
his father was the senator who pushed for casino legalization in thailand. the bill failed. the son went a different route 💀

the US senate unanimously banned senators and all staff from betting on prediction markets
passed fast - way faster than the stock trading ban that's been stuck in congress for years. timing is obvious: Trump is currently against prediction markets, so the senate moved while the political window was open
they also called on the house, executive and judicial branches to follow. nobody asked Polymarket how they feel about this

belgium launched a 6-layer blocking system for illegal gambling sites - ISPs, CDNs like Cloudflare, search engines, ad networks, domain registrars all have to comply within 5 days
non-compliance: €500k fine per violation. 49 sites already blocked under the new system
the irony is legal gambling in belgium is declining because of their own reforms. they're getting serious about the black market while the regulated market shrinks

norway’s state bookmaker Rikstoto accidentally gave out 23,716 free bets to 5,158 players between feb 3-5 - and then decided not to claw the winnings back
estimated losses between €100k-€200k, possibly more. free bets are literally illegal in norway, so the regulator opened an investigation
then it happened again on march 25th. and they only told the regulator on april 15th - weeks past the mandatory 72-hour reporting window
both incidents happened after migrating to a new platform from Betmakers. classic

the GAMRS report on MyStake and its network finally dropped after being delayed by a Carter-Ruck defamation letter
new detail: the CEO of MyStake “Andres Markou” doesn’t exist. GAMRS says he’s an AI avatar created to manufacture credibility for the brand. the real operation is run out of Georgia through the Upgaming ecosystem
96 UK players provided verified banking records showing combined losses of £241k to MyStake alone. one person lost £45k in 3 days, another £21,400 in one evening - both after trying to self-exclude via GamStop
the group just dissolved their holding companies. the report is out now

@gambletales I literally can’t but unfortunately in this gambling space, you could have a bad month and get dropped

texas tech QB Brendan Sorsby is in rehab and facing a permanent NCAA ban after placing thousands of bets through gambling apps - including bets on his own team back in 2022 when he was at Indiana
he was making $5M this year at texas tech. despite that, he was sitting in baseball stadiums betting $1-$2.50 on individual pitches being balls or strikes. thousands of times
the NCAA rule is clear - bet on your own team, lose eligibility forever. he’s 22 years old and his college career is likely over

georgia’s legal gambling association says unlicensed operators are pulling $742M out of the economy every year, growth accelerated after tax hikes in 2021
the government’s response: raise fines on licensed operators from $2,600 to $7,400 per violation
the industry’s response: you’re punishing the wrong people. most violations in the legal sector are technical or administrative, not intentional. meanwhile offshore platforms operate freely
ministry of finance thinks the $742M figure is exaggerated. nobody agrees on the numbers but everyone agrees the black market is growing

a black market gambling group behind MyStake, DonBet, GoldenBet and Rolletto just dissolved their holding companies as regulatory pressure grew
british players bet over £3B through this group last year. the holdings were registered in Curacao - now liquidated, with a chinese national appointed as director, which according to GAMRS is a standard move to hide real ownership during windup
their affiliates were actively targeting self-excluded problem gamblers with "not on GamStop" tags
the report exposing all this got delayed after the group's lawyers sent a defamation letter to GAMRS. it's expected next week
