There is a projected reductionof 1 trillion dollars coming out of the healthcare industry in the next decade due to the OBBBA, which will predominantly affect the hospitals with the highest medicaid populations. Changes the Medicaid, along with the cancellation of the exchange subsidies is going to rapidly increase the number of uninsured patients.
Because uninsured patients won’t have easy access to care anywhere else, and because the federal government mandates that emergency departments see and stabilize patients regardless of their ability to pay, it’s going to cause a significant increase in patient seeking care in emergency departments as their only option for healthcare.
But this is a Catch-22 because many of these people will be unable to pay these expensive emergency bills.
This creates a system where a massive number of people are seeking expensive care that will not be paid for. Which will cause hospitals to not be willing to provide the resources to provide that emergency care in a timely fashion, because there’s no financial incentive to do so.
This will result in overcrowding of an already drowning system. And everyone, those with insurance and without, will suffer due to understaffed overwhelmed institutions that are struggling not to close. And as more do, it just will overwhelm the next closest hospital.

@GamerEMDoc Can you explain a little more? Genuinely curious (and inherently suspicious of any large piece of legislation)

If Americans dont like TSA lines, what until they see what happens to healthcare once rural hospitals begin closing and leave other ERs as the only place a massively expanded uninsured population can go for care. The fallout of the OBBBA is a disaster the public doesn’t realize is coming next.
