This is the thing about information flows. Incentive to chase scoops is reduced if a team is open to expanding who they’ll make available, and if players are open to working with reporters on story ideas. If they’re not, then reporters are better off just working the phone.

@HockeyROI built it for myself, so will admit it has some holes for sure. mostly defenders like Tanev, Slavvin etc

@HockeyROI PGR=6+((G*)+(A*)+ (SOG*)etc)/GP something along these lines. rating isnt predictive, only what has been done. I had a rough formula in 2019 and tweaked it a few times.

@HockeyROI uses, blocks, hits, FOW and unfortunately +/- but the weight is key for each. once more stats are available from API, i can fine tune

@HockeyROI @farmergreene4 @KevinMcCurdy @Madi39 Using Nurse as an example, the dashed line is the average rating of 6.37 NHL D, which would equal the league average salary cap, which was approx. $2.9M in 2025-26. The valuation is calculated based on that. It is only for 2025-26.

@HockeyROI @farmergreene4 @KevinMcCurdy @Madi39 Essentially, game stats that I can download from API, from an NHL game, I put into a formula which value the individual stats and generates one number. (what I call PGR) I put a base of 6 as it was inspired by Premier League football post-game ratings.

@HockeyROI @KevinMcCurdy @Madi39 The game rating is calculated from game stats, which then produces a league average rating at each position, which I can then use to figure out an estimate on value using the league average for cap hits. playergameratings.com if you want all players. it's free

@Madi39 I think a lot of people vastly underestimate what Nurse is actually worth. There are some compelling arguments to be made that he's still a top pairing defenseman in this league that is greatly overshadowed by his contract.

@PaulPetten1 78 points in 82 games will be difficult to better. The deal is still a great one if he puts up 60-70 points every year. Can he hit 90-100? No doubt.

Lane Hutson signs for 8 years at $8.85M. PGR 2025-26 valuation was $8.69M. Looks to be a potential bargain, but 2025-26 might be the peak as well. Fair deal in my opinion.

$17M over 7 years is pretty rich, but I think you hope he maintains form for at least 4 of those years. Sometimes teams like the Wild have to overpay to keep stars.

Still think Makar being a finalist feels wrong this year. But he will always have some previous reputation bias. Bouchard still a ridiculous snub based off other years

Norris balloting this year was the hardest vote of my hockey writing career. If you wanted to recognize the finalists (Makar, Werenski and Dahlin) while also voting for Seider (who was a 🔒 for my top-3), that meant excluding 2 of Bouchard, Hughes and Hutson. Gut wrenching.

I don't think the #Canucks are ready for the backlash they'll face in this market if Pierre Dorion is hired as GM. That would legitimately be the last straw for a lot of fans with this team
