Really gutted by that. Bryson 66/1 to lead when most assume he'll struggle, tied with one left, flier, bad chip, and bogeys it to potentially miss a dead-heat. That's putting horribly and making six on one of the par-fives having had 30ft for birdie. Gimme a break.

PGA Championship would make the most sense to rotate. Now the NFL, the biggest sports league in the world, is taking a season game to Australia, there's really no reason why golf can't. It's also not just Australia; a major in Ireland, Spain, or South Africa would be biblical

Reporter: "Would you like to see an international major? Not three in the U.S. and one in Europe, but one that travels around the world?" Jon Rahm: "From what I've seen the last few years, having a major in Australia could be very successful." Thoughts? Interesting perspective here from Jon.

@jamierkennedy Ball strikers paradise. Look at the approach to green stats as the main metric.

On the firmness at Birkdale… While the fairways and green surrounds are already firm and brown, the greens are still somewhat green and can hold shots. That mix will lend to fun viewing when players miss fairways and have to navigate shots to the greens. Also ensures they won’t lose the greens (despite the low wind speeds all week). It’s not the shots into the wind that will be tricky, it’ll be stopping drives and approaches down wind. Also the difference between green speeds and fairway speeds is almost nothing, so loads of players already putting and chipping with woods more than normal (and unlike Shinnecock).

Bryson DeChambeau is 0-for-3 making cuts in majors this season entering The Open. The last time a multiple-major champion started all 4 majors in a season and missed all 4 cuts: 1998, when both Tom Watson and Ben Crenshaw both did it.

Hearing a lot of "how is player X this price?" The answer is largely here, with the Betfair exchange. Anything larger than the "lay" price is an arb

Matt Fitzpatrick thinks gambling is “definitely an issue” that’s affecting how fans behave at golf tournaments: “Yeah, it's a great question because you just look at all the messages people get -- footballers, tennis players, you name it, everyone's getting messages of, oh, you missed that penalty; you cost me this. Oh, you didn't make a birdie; cost me this. “I've had my fair share. I would say every golfer that's played a professional tournament has had a message of abuse from someone that is related to gambling. I mean, you could see it this week. You go and type in a player's name who maybe isn't playing well, maybe someone who's favored to play well, you type the name into Twitter and you'll just see their name followed by abuse after abuse after abuse. “It's difficult because I've had 20 quid on England to win the World Cup, but at the same time, if it doesn't come in, I'm not going to send a message to Harry Kane and be like, why did you play rubbish? There's obviously individuals that have that problem. “I don't know, obviously I don't condone gambling in the slightest. It doesn't -- it's not really for me. It's a thing that me and my mate do every World Cup and Euros, that's it. “For me, it's definitely becoming a problem and the issue is, particularly in golf, it would be very easy to influence a bet, whether it's you're shouting on someone's backswing, shouting on a putting stroke. It's really easy. Obviously that is really hard to monitor, but it is definitely an issue.” @MattFitz94 @TheOpen

Matt Fitzpatrick is up to a career high of 3rd in the world, after a brilliant season that includes 3 wins and another top 5 at the Scottish Open. So does he think he’s playing better now than he was in 2022 when he won the US Open? “Yeah, definitely playing better. Different style of play, I would say. That's the big thing. Hopefully I've not peaked yet obviously, but I just think I'm doing a lot of good stuff this year. Short game's been really, really good, and so has my irons. “That's a first for me. My irons have never really been a strength. I've had good seasons but never really taken advantage of that, I don't feel like; whereas now I feel like I've got that. “I think sort of the level of experience and maturity I have, I guess, with playing and being in these situations is obviously much better now, even than before 2022. So I think that's obviously a big help as well. “Yeah, I think there's always room for improvement. There's areas that -- I'm looking at last week, why didn't I do that? Why didn't I do this? You're always trying to find those small gains.” There hasn’t been an English winner of The Open since Nick Faldo in 1992. But with 3 English players in the top 10 of the OWGR, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose, plus others playing great golf like Aaron Rai, Alex Fitzpatrick, Marco Penge and Tyrrell Hatton, there’s a strong possibility of a home winner at Royal Birkdale 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 @MattFitz94 @TheOpen

You know what… This follow through is the exact follow through that’s puts you in position to throw that club so far down the fairway and it snaps in 2 Kudos for Rory not doing that here & just insulting himself instead Need more of this “anger” rather than destroying golf courses, tee markers & breaking clubs

Golfing in Scotland is better than you can imagine. Many things in life promise everything and deliver nothing. Scotland promises everything and somehow over-delivers. The town of St Andrews is electric — the architecture, the textured history, an atmosphere very few towns can carry. Dornoch is spectacular. Every view is breathtaking. You feel like you're at the edge of the world. Carnoustie — my favourite place in the world. The town of 4,000 that took the game to the corners of the earth. Golf's greatest test. Beautiful and beguiling, tempting and devious. The most fun you can have with your clothes on. Edinburgh, my favourite city on earth. Bagpipers, a nearly 1,000-year-old castle, bars, restaurants, and more atmosphere than it knows what to do with. We Scots love to show off our wee country. You'll be welcomed with open arms as long-lost cousins. But be warned. Over the years I've watched countless bucket-listers arrive for their "once in a lifetime" golf trip. Then I see them again a few years later. And again after that. And again. Scotland gets under your skin. The 11pm sunsets. Beers on the rooftop bar looking over the Old Course. Family, friends, and the sound of someone who thought they were coming once, already planning the next trip. The question is whats stopping you?

@BenColeyGolf @JonathanYarwood Then the argument is, are those ranked 4-10 doing a great deal for their careers on the PGA tour. Maybe another year honing their skills on Eurotour, would be more beneficial than moving home so swiftly.

@garosssss @JonathanYarwood can actually be said to matter? We’re talking about players like Saddier, Jesper Svensson, Niklas Norgaard, Rozner. Penge is actually among the exceptions. The others are good players who got hot at right time. Svensson isn’t ’better’ than Hillier for example. They come and go.

@BenColeyGolf @JonathanYarwood Fair argument, just feel for the long term viability of the DP tour, player protection needs more attention. With more emphasis on National opens in recent times, DP tour can really capitalise on this with bigger sponsorship, and in turn hopefully lose the "feeder tour" tag.

@garosssss @JonathanYarwood Then what if more Europeans, especially those who’ve gone through US college system, decide actually I’ll go and play the Korn Ferry Tour instead because there are way more cards available? There’s always been a path like this, it’s just been formalised, to the benefit of both.
