Run, don't walk, to DuBois Pastry Shoppe in Elmhurst (Newtown, really) and pick up this delicious pecan Danish, and tell the owner it was recommended by the guy he told not to take pictures.
Sarabeth's didn’t open a #ChelseaMarket location until their pastry & restaurant brand had expanded well beyond its UWS roots. Success hasn’t hindered them from delivering a bewildering variety of sweets here daily - try any of the scones, muffins, cakes or other tempting treats.
Nowadays, 132 Crosby St on the border of SoHo and #NoLiTa is just the back door of a retail shop. But I wonder who else here might remember the tiny hole-in-the-wall eatery that was once wedged in there, just at the end of the two-block run of Jersey Street behind the Puck Bldg?
Reclaiming my NYC #pizza vibe with a humble 'dollar slice' at typical hole-in-the-wall 2nd Av Pizza in Kips Bay.
Nothing to write home about, just a very regular cheese slice like as found at hundreds of similar spots all around town, but a local staple.
(actual cost $2.00 🤣)
As part of his plan to create the DUMBO of today, developer David Walentas gave Jacques Torres free rent for a year to launch a #chocolate factory there. 25 years on it’s still a great spot for sweets - any one of their varied bonbons is a satisfying, indulgent taste experience.
Black & white cookie, a bit worse for wear from its plastic package, from Grabstein's Bagels on the UES.
These iconic treats are thought to have originated with German immigrants to the US, became popular with the Jewish community here, & in Germany are known now as 'Amerikaner'
The varied sweet & savory items at #cronut creator Dominique Ansel's Papa d'Amour on University Pl. are all crafted with care & each seems to have a little thematic twist.
In this case, Cantonese Malay sponge cake is kicked up a notch with cinnamon, nutmeg & caramelized banana.
@garsleat Haha I had a feeling you might chime in! It was moist & rich, chock-full of ripe banana flavor.
But I had to ask myself whether 𝘮𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘪 𝘨𝘢𝘰 really needed to be tarted up in this way. Once you start to change something that much, it kind of becomes something else, I think.
Back to the Grand St. location of Yunnan Rice Noodle House in Manhattan's Chinatown for Crispy Taro Pot and selections from the 'breakfast all day' menu, including Boneless Chicken with Chili & Peanut Sauce, which went well dunked into their otherwise relentlessly bland congee.
Just outside of the touristical zone of DUMBO, #Fontainhas has continued to be a reliable spot for a bit of respite.
Some days call for both the refreshing coolness of their citrusy Nimbu Sherbet as well as the fortifying power of their creamy, saffron-topped iced Royal Chai...
@garsleat@robertsietsema@ErikHodgetts I don't know this place, but I've seen the insane line at the Cheesesteak place on Avenue A . . . I'll probably never have the patience to eat at either place.
