I was told over the last twenty years the GB grid couldn’t cope with Renewables above 10%, then 20%, then 30%, 40% and 50%. Shouldn’t it have collapsed by now?

Took the dog to the vet yesterday Golden retriever She ate something in the backyard My wife said "she looks off" I said "she's a dog. She always looks like that." My wife made the appointment anyway Nice office Fish tank in the lobby Every professional I visit has a fish tank The vet came in Looked at the dog for maybe 30 seconds Pressed on her stomach The dog wagged her tail He said "we should run some tests" I said "what kind of tests" He said "bloodwork, X-ray, urinalysis, and an ultrasound" I said "she ate a stick" He said "we want to be thorough" I said "what's the cost" He said "roughly $3,400" For a stick My wife looked at me Not the ceiling this time Directly at me The look that means "if you negotiate the vet bill for our dog I will never speak to you again" I said "run the tests" Fastest approval I've ever given No diligence No second opinion No counter The dog looked at me Tail still wagging She has no idea what anything costs Must be nice They took her to the back We sat in the waiting room for two hours My wife was worried I was calculating the per-minute cost of this visit I didn't say that out loud Therapy taught me that much The vet came back Looked at his chart for 90 seconds He said "good news. Nothing serious. She probably just ate something that didn't agree with her." I said "so she's fine" He said "she's fine" I said "we waited two hours and spent $3,400 to confirm what you suspected when you pressed on her stomach for 30 seconds" He said "we wanted to rule things out" I said "what did you rule out" He said "quite a bit" I said "name one thing" He paused My wife said "we're paying the bill" I said "I know we're paying the bill" The vet recommended a "premium digestive supplement" $89 a month I said no My wife said yes The vet looked at me I looked at the dog The dog was asleep on the floor $3,400 and two hours later and she's the most relaxed one in the room We paid In the car my wife said "you were going to negotiate weren't you" I said "the thought crossed my mind" She said "it's our dog" I said "I know. That's why I didn't." She looked at me I looked at the road The dog was in the backseat Head out the window Not a single thought behind those eyes I've never been more jealous of another living thing $3,400 $89/month supplement One stick Non-negotiable Sent from my iPhone

I just see a room full of bullies, not victims. If you've grown up with oppression and you take the opportunity to punch down on more vulnerable people once your life situation has improved, that makes you a cunt, regardless of whatever you've suffered or still might do.

@MIKEKIN73778218 @StanCollymore Once again Stan has got this bang on.If he does apologise, then it’s a courtesy of his choosing. He should not apologise for his disability, same as a black American shouldn’t have apologised for being black in 1950s America, just because white Americans were hurt by their existence

@StanCollymore Trolling is never a good thing. Yes, its about his disability, but it became about race when the N-word was directed at 2 famous black actors a a major award ceremony. Involuntarily Yes, but the word is still offensive to whole race of people. Apology would be a nice gesture

At this juncture you people are trolling a man with a disability, open and shut. He spent his formative years apologising for something not in his gift to stop. Do you understand how damaging that is to the psyche? Apologising day in, day out for having no malice or malintent? It plays on the mind and John has spoken candidly about his suicidal ideation because of that. The 2 beautiful black men who, yes, were stunned, are also intelligent enough, inquisitive enough to have read John's statement which is sincere. But to apologise for a disability raises so many questions that John deliberately, through his campaigning, documentaries and film tries to answer. If he apologises, what is he apologising for? Something he has no control over? A verifiable, medical industry diagnosed condition? We are going down a rabbit hole if the disabled have to apologise for being. The 2 actors are black men, a cohort of humanity who literally were told to apologise for attempting to go into a school or ride a bus but because brave campaigners fought for the right not to be "other", segregation no longer is a legal reality. So instead of outlets like yours quoting "outrage and disgust" from "sources close to the actors", maybe in good time we'll hear from them, in context and in clarity. The only wiggle room anyone has morally when arguing for an apology is courtesy. That John choses to call the men and informally explain his condition, the scenario on the night ( stressful for a Tourettes sufferer) and offers just a personal "I hope you understand". A common courtesy many would agree with. But be under no illusion, John needs not to apologise for his disability and any explanation of his condition to anyone offended by words he involuntarily said should be his choice, in his time and in tne basis that he can not ( UK law backs this up) be blamed for an involuntary act. Your headline and desperate need for this to be about racism when in fact it is about disability and the grey area of involuntary act meeting understandable offence, an area that if outlets like you took the heat out of the situation would more than likely happen between the 3 men.

White people in 1950’s America used to be hurt by the presence of black people on the bus and in the schools. The answer then was not for the black person to apologise. It’s not John Davidson’s responsibility to apologise today.

@PolitlcsUK Why not hand it over to the national trust as a visitor attraction and build a new one. Ideally not in London, maybe somewhere more central in the country.

🚨 NEW: MPs and peers must vote on two options to restore the Palace of Westminster 1: Fully move-out for 19–24 years (£11-15bn) 2: Phased works over 38–61 years, in which the Lords move out to a conference centre and MPs use their chamber for 2 years from 2041 (£19-39bn)

@Sam_Dumitriu It’s going to cost billions to refurbish. I suggest we hand it over to the National Trust for visitors to go and look at and build a new parliament, which would be a lot cheaper and maybe we could put it somewhere other than London

This is a bit like bat tunnels and fish discos. If you had £100m to spend on bats, would you spend it on a 1km shed in Buckinghamshire? No. Likewise, if you had hundreds of millions to spend on disability access, would more lifts in Parliament be your priority? I'd say no.
max tempers@maxtempers

EVERY SINGLE lift (barring one) in Parliament will have to be re-fitted to meet modern accessibility regulations. That is the 'key challenge' in the Parliament Restoration project, according to the architectural lead. No British govt project can stick to its original remit.

Awful game overall. Expensive in terms of Ekitike and Leoni. Positives - Isak off the mark and Chiesa having a great game.

I’m really struggling with the narrative that Mo Salah has had a poor start to the season. He’s got 4 G/A in 5 games. Not sure what you are smoking if that’s not a good start. #lfceve

The sad thing is, for Marc Guehi, we might not need him in January or next Summer. In football, things change so fast. What is to say Giovanni Leoni doesn't exceed expectations and Ibrahima Konate signs a contract? Insane.
