The @AESorg Convention starts today and its awesome to see how much interest there is in AI. There are seven workshops focusing on AI and over 22 papers that use AI as a central component of their work. Here are some of the papers and sessions I am planning to check out...

‘It would be lovely to talk about a subject that is very close to my heart/ears/soul. I think it would be great for Alan and I to do it together as we have different methods, but similar taste/perception/application of one of the most misunderstood tools in the sonic palette...

@csteinmetz1 2/2 Creativity is often in the outliers! Work with professional mix engineers and you’ll get closer to what I hope are assistive tools which facilitate more creativity! Just my $0.05!

The middle ground stance is that says generative AI will take over as a paradigm for track or sample generation, but mixing will still take place in a DAW using audio effects. (Kind of like editing and touching up AI art in Photoshop.) Thoughts?

Even as someone who cares a lot about mixing, I feel mixing and mastering (and audio effects) as we know them today could be totally replaced by generative AI. Why?

@csteinmetz1 The weakness is still in the data systems are trained on Chris. Too many music production students and self reporting experts who in many cases know very little about music production IMHO! Mixing is not predominantly technical it’s mostly about feel, emotion and creativity. 1/2

@phardingmusic A pleasure to have mixed the new Atmos version of this song for London Records. Many thanks to Phil Harding for artistic guidance and Neil Pickles for technical advice and ideas. I had to match Phil’s original mix to create stems which was no small thing!
