In 1967, Evel Knievel attempted to jump across the fountains at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
The stunt did not go as planned, leading to a shattered pelvis and femur, broken hip, wrist, and ankles on both sides, alongside a concussion.
Despite the grievous injuries, he lived through the ordeal.
In 1964 landscape architect Dame Sylvia Crowe designed a park around Cumberland Basin, featuring natural spaces alongside the concrete of the elevated roads. It was initially popular but eventually succumbed to neglect and has now been largely forgotten.
@thewhisperer2@Dougwriter That hasn’t been the case since Rio. The BBC no longer has the rights to livestream more than a handful of events. (Discovery outbid the European TV consortium that negotiated the TV rights for the BBC.)
@Dougwriter Might I suggest the IPlayer. A cunning device which allows the viewer to watch the sport of his or her choice and highlights going back days.
BBC Olympics coverage has now officially lost the plot. We'll cut away from this knife-edge tennis final between the two best players in the world to the parallel bars where some Briton you've never heard of might come fifth.
@ATRightMovies There are two dissolves in The Godfather Part 2 where the Pacino and De Niro characters very briefly appear on screen at the same time, even though the actors never share a scene.
@Birdseed501 I lived near Heathrow at the time and saw the plane fly over our house, wing on fire, as it came back to land. My parents didn’t believe me until we saw it on the news.
Raw unused footage of immediate aftermath of the G-ARWE accident at Heathrow, 8 April 1968.
This would have been taken by a resident airport press agency cameraman. Normally these covered arriving VIPs etc, but were also well positioned to cover any accidents ⬇️🧵. #OTD#BOAC
@Acyn The historians and presidential “experts” who recently ranked all US Presidents (and placed Trump in dead last place) didn’t take the amount of merch shifted into account. Who were these so-called experts?
@Redpeter99 I’m a member of that that most fortunate generation, and I have nothing but contempt for the fuckwits my age who fail to acknowledge this obvious reality.
The most fortunate generation ever.
Free NHS, too young for WW2 conscription or National Service, affordable housing, secure well paid jobs, free HE, excellent final salary pension schemes.
Why are they so angry?
@BristolLive I hardly ever follow your links because the pages are always toxic nightmares of unusability, but the subject interests me, so I gave it a go. I barely made it out with my sanity intact.
@paullewismoney@MichaelLCrick@premierinn I hardly ever tweet/X/whatever-it’s-called-this-week, but this has prompted me to action. Premier Inn is excellent for the money, and I’ve always found the staff to be very helpful.
In @premierinn hotel but after a day’s work no clean towels, no cleaned room, no made bed. I complain but am told I must ask to have my room cleaned. No one told me! I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world and never had to do that. I will never stay @premierinn again. Beware.

@furiano112 Thanks for the screenshots! Could you try to add Spotify to Sonos just by following the link here: bit.ly/3ERQAAk and let us know if that works. We'll here waiting for your reply.
Hey @Sonos, the @Spotify service has disappeared completely from the Sonos App.
I also can‘t play on my Sonos speakers via the Spotify app.
When will you fix this?
@SpotifyCares
#OnThisDay 1981 #Napoleon was screened at the Empire Theatre in Leicester Square, accompanied by the Wren Orchestra conducted by Carl. This poster graces Carl's office. It was an extraordinary night and we have very special memories. Were you there? #silentfilm#silents
