“How can you be against immigration, you’re an immigrant? RACIST!” I’m not against immigration. Quite the opposite. I moved to the USA in May of 1999 with $500 cash, a pregnant wife and a suitcase. That’s it. I had no idea what I was going to do, or how I was going to do it. They key word in my immigration process is this…LEGAL! Not only did I come here LEGALLY, but I also made the conscious decision to embrace the American culture and integrate into the American culture immediately. I went to work within days of my arrival, digging ditches in the Oklahoma summer heat to install sprinkler systems. I was the low man on the totem pole for sure! I worked hard until they couldn’t give me any more pay raises, then found a different, better job until the same happened again. I acquired a Class A CDL so that I could drive “semi-trucks” and became a sought after, skilled individual. I worked hard until I couldn’t go any higher then moved on to something better. WASH, RINSE, REPEAT! After 9 years at PepsiCo I gambled on myself and my work ethic yet again and entered into the topsy turvy world of oil & gas, which is where I am today. There’s been so many ups, downs, successes & failures during the 20+ years. I’ve won, and I’ve lost. But one thing that remained constant during all of it was OPPORTUNITY! The opportunity to succeed has always been there and I’m extremely proud to say that I have not received one dollar in government assistance since my move here. There’s never been a need to. When my green card was close to expiring, I decided to become a US Citizen. I did this out of pure gratitude. Immediately after becoming a citizen, I joined the US Army as a way of saying thanks to a country that WELCOMES hard working immigrants! I became part of the US, and the US became part of me. THAT is immigration. Now, and here’s where liberals give me a hard time; I’m still proud to be Scottish! I’m still interested and vested in what takes place in Scotland. My entire family still lives and works there, so I’m allowed to be. However, when I decided to leave Scotland and immigrate to the United States, I took an oath to support the laws and constitution of the United States. I took this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. Therefore, my first responsibility was to become part of the fabric of America; become part of what has made America so great. THIS is why the liars that are showing up at US and UK borders masquerading as asylum seekers are NOT immigrants. Thay have no interest in supporting the laws of the land they desperately seek to enter. As the US celebrates her “birthday”, I’d simply like to say that this is still the greatest place on earth. A place that welcomes immigrants with WIDE OPEN ARMS! Am yer proof! Proper immigration laws being enforced will preserve this country’s status as the greatest place on earth. A wide-open border will only destroy it. You cannot have a country if you do not have borders. And wanting borders is NOT racism.
