Just saw The Odyssey. Despite what you may have heard, literally all of the criticisms by conservatives were entirely correct. The movie is just as woke as you fear, if not more so. The DEI casting is atrocious. Completely takes you out of the story right from the beginning. But even worse than that is Nolan’s decision to turn Odysseus into an anachronistic whiney, solemn shell of a man plagued by “trauma” and guilt. It’s impossible to overlook these flaws because the film itself is not terribly entertaining or well constructed. For the most part it is disjointed, dull, self-serious, disenchanted, somehow feeling both verbose and overly rushed at the same time. The dialogue is some of the worst I’ve ever heard in a “critically acclaimed” film. “On the nose” and “clunky” are descriptions that can’t even begin to describe this script. At no point in the story does Nolan ever transport the audience to the ancient world. You never feel like you’re 3,000 years in the past. You feel like you’re watching modern Americans put on a pageant, because you are. Nobody would be calling this thing a masterpiece if it was made by a director not named Christopher Nolan.

He may not be your cup of tea, but that's probably the point, IMO. The fact is that I don't think many appreciate the impact of Bill's reach into the hearts and minds of people on the left who would never otherwise be exposed to, much less consider, truths that shine a bright light on the pitfalls of far-left policies and the hollowness of their warped belief system. It's as though we're watching Bill himself on his own journey of coming to see through the lies... and with him, he's waking up (and bringing along with him) a ton of people, whether or not they even realize it. The fact is that Bill is reaching his mainly left-of-center audience in a manner that few could surpass and helping rewire and overcome the lies that have been sold to them hook, line, and sinker. I absolutely believe this whole scenario with him and his ability to reach a segment of the population with a POV that would otherwise fall on deaf ears is being (and has been) intentionally nurtured for EXACTLY this purpose. Different people require different Pied Piper-type voices to lead them from where they are, not where we think they ought to be. Do with that information what you will.
