as i said before the tournament, top 8 would be a very successful result but with victory in our grasp here & not converting it stings a little bit to not make it to top 6 & possibly further.
being realistic i think top 4 was the maximum we could have hoped for with how the bracket played out. Czechia dropping to the lower bracket was not on my bingo card, but it would have been nice to give it a shot against them - i believe Latvia was a winnable game despite them having a strong roster but definitely could have gone either way.
when i took over here as the head coach i was very clear that each of the 7 players would be given the opportunity to represent their nation in at least 1 game. having access to a 7 man team all with different experience levels, different personalities, different strengths & weaknesses, different levels of both current ability & potential ability. all of this culminating in this result i have to say despite it being a little frustrating today, but tomorrow i will look at this as a big success for everyone involved & for Croatian valorant. we achieved our expectations & what we set out to do for this qualifier, we can take solace in that.
the improvement i've seen from a month ago until now has been amazing. on an individual level players from different levels came together & stepped up to represent their national team. the gap in the beginning was very large from player to player but that has decreased & decreased with every passing week, every passing session both with individuals & as a collective.
i'm proud of everyone on this journey & you should be proud of yourselves too. we did the most with what we had & we gave our best. reaching a top level in eastern europe with all of the amazing talent here was going to be very tough but as a collective we proved what we could do. thank you for all of your efforts, all of your trust & all of your respect during this journey to a top 8 finish in enc qualifiers.
i'll hold this in my heart for the bond we've created & the experiences we've shared. thank you for teaching me a lot about croatian culture during our time together & for appointing me as your head coach as together we looked to take on the insurmountable feat of making it to Riyadh as just a small nation. it was a great goal to share with you all.
keep building on everything you've learnt here, a lot of you have potential to continue in this game. i know it has been a lot to take in & a lot to learn in such a short amount of time but you've all done well to digest it. i hope you found our time together useful & i can't wait to see each of the next steps you take in your careers in this game.
don't be sad it's over, be happy because it happened boys. well done. myself, all of my coaching staff & the nation of Croatia are proud of you.
