Cold emailing is the most underrated cheat code for emerging artists
If you know how to do it well, you can get features, playlists, collabs, even brand deals.
Here’s how to use cold emails as an artist !

First, what’s a cold email?
It’s simply reaching out to someone you don’t know, introducing yourself, and pitching your work in a way that makes them care.
Think of it as: “Hi, I exist. Here’s why you should pay attention.”
But here’s the catch: a badly written cold email can close doors instead of opening them.
That’s why cold emailing isn’t about sending random links. It’s about positioning.
The better you present yourself, the more likely industry people, curators, and brands will take you seriously.
Step 1: Know your target
•Blogs & media
•Playlist curators
•A&Rs & label scouts
•Other artists (for collabs)
•Brands (for partnerships)
Step 2: Find them
•Blog “Contact Us” pages
•Playlist curators on IG/Twitter bios
•A&Rs on LinkedIn
•Creatives & brands via Instagram/portfolios
Step 3: Personalize
Cold emails work because they don’t feel cold. Example:
“Hi [Name], I really enjoyed your article on Native Mag about the Alté scene.
I’m an Afro-fusion artist based in Lagos, and I think my latest project aligns with that movement…”
Keep it short. Nobody wants to read an essay.
•Who you are
•What you do
•Why you’re reaching out
•A link or two (not 10)
•Clear ask (feature, collab, playlist consideration, etc.)
Step 4: Follow up
If no reply in 7–10 days, send a short follow-up.
“Hi [Name], just checking in to see if you had a chance to listen…”
Don’t spam. 2–3 emails max.
The truth is that 50 people might ignore you, But that 1 “yes” can get you a playlist placement, a feature, or a collab that changes your career.
Cold emailing is a numbers + positioning game.
Emerging artists: stop waiting to “get discovered.”
Use cold emails to put yourself directly in front of blogs, curators, and brands.
It’s not begging, it’s networking with strategy.
Your next big break might just be one email away.
