Today, we launched a dissemination workshop in #Garowe, Puntland, focusing on presenting the results from our multi-year and multi-site research project @gcrf_disoco. DiSoCo's objective is to provide healthcare support for Somali and Congolese displaced individuals in Somalia, Eastern DRC, Kenya, and South Africa. The focus is on addressing chronic mental health conditions stemming from prolonged displacement, conflict, and instances of sexual and gender-based violence. Somalia and Eastern DRC, both affected by long-term conflict and displacement since the early 1990s, have substantial populations of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and significant refugee numbers across the region.

Dr. Amina Jama is presenting a research article entitled "Pathways to Care: IDPs Seeking Health Support and Justice for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Through Social Connections in Garowe and Kismayo, Somalia, and South Kivu, DRC."

Mohamed Ali Salad is presenting a newly research study entitled "Rethinking (Local) Integration: Domains of Integration and Their Durability in Kismayo and Garowe, Somalia," which @gcrf_disoco partners recently published.

Today, we kicked off a dissemination workshop in #Kismayo, Jubaland. The one-day conference will focus on Protracted Displacement, Health, and Gender in Somalia, during which we will present the results from our multi-year and multi-site research project entitled "Improving healthcare at the intersection of gender and protracted displacement among Somali and Congolese refugees and IDPs" and discuss policy and programming implications of the findings for Somalia.

The SIDRA team met with the Jubaland Commission for Refugee and IDPs (JUCRI) in #Kismayo today. The discussion focused on collaboration in various areas, particularly on IDP camps in Kismayo, which were included as field research sites for the @gcrf_disoco research project. SIDRA has been conducting the DiSoCo research project over the past three years. DiSoCo's objective is to provide healthcare support for Somali and Congolese displaced individuals in Somalia, Eastern DRC, Kenya, and South Africa. The focus is on addressing chronic mental health conditions stemming from prolonged displacement, conflict, and instances of sexual and gender-based violence. .@WitsUniversity has organized one week policy analysis workshop in #Johannesburg, the workshop were attended by the @gcrf_disoco colleagues @SIDRAInstitute, @AmrefUniversity, @UEAOfficielle and @WitsUniversity. Together the team has reviewed the extensive policy/legislations in the lenses of migration/IDP, mental health, Gender and right to health. The team will soon produce briefs covering these areas and provide actionable recommendations to improve those policies/legislation.
