@gdmnw @elizhargrave @eric_lang @PWalkerHarding If the games being nominated are majority white male made games, and I play games based on the nominations, then the games I try will of course be white male made games. This is the argument right? That at no one's fault, the system is broken, and acknowledging that is the start.

Several commenters speculated that using data from a German award might be skewing the results, bc many crowd-funded games don't get released in Germany. Dice Tower's GOTY noms since 2007, which have included several crowdfunded games: 200 men, 7 women, 1 non-binary designer

@DanLovatClark As evidence, look at other game genres that don't have publisher gatekeepers. In my early surveys on Escape Rooms, almost half of escape room designers were women. In the Indie RPG industry, there's an incredible spread of ideas and diverse viewpoints.

Jane Doe loves board games. She also likes to make things (she's a quilter) and has that particular spark of a mind that is both creative and analytical. So she makes a board game.

@elizhargrave This data makes me want to look at the game designers of the games I play. Besides literally you @eric_lang and @PWalkerHarding I do not pay as much attention to designers as I should. But to your point, I try to play the games spiel and DT nominate meaning I am skewing male.
