Social media has distorted how people view fitness. Fitness classes with only 10 lb weights are like jogging in place on a moving sidewalk. You look busy, but you never actually change. The leanest and healthiest people got there by lifting heavy and moving often.

99.9% of the time, the athletes I see who miss their true potential always skip in season training and are inconsistent with strength training. I hate to see it, but for 20+ years I see it happen without fail.
Brian Bott@23botter

@ZEvenEsh The biggest waste of an athletes time is training 8 weeks in the summer and then stopping in the fall- better to hit the beach and surf…. It’s also a sure fire way to increase injuries

It's the year 2025 and we still have parents, athletes and even coaches who don't think athletic strength training is important. Or they only train pre season, NEVER in season. Is there not enough education on this topic? I believe athlete attitude is crucial here.

It's a broken model. "No time for the gym". Running on turf 12 months a year. Clubs do "speed and agility" = MORE running 🫤 Not sure which coaches, parents & Doctors need to hear this: Girls tearing BOTH ACLs between 8th grade and high school is NOT normal. 💔
Erica Mulholland, MS CSCS 👸🏼@fitsoccerqueen

Stop blaming ACL tears on female anatomy and hormones when your girls are failing to get into the gym, and don’t even know their strength numbers. Or, they're under-eating + under-recovering. FOCUS ON THE BIG ROCKS FIRST. ericasuter.com/in-season-stre…

I watch high school football teams year after year leave med ball throws, jumps, landings, frontal plane work, unilateral work, and sufficient posterior chain work out of their strength programs, and kids have no idea how unprepared they are or how much they left on the table.

Had an interesting conversation with a high-level college 🏀 player. After a grueling aerobic-based preseason, he was in the best shape of his life. 3 minutes into the first game, he felt out of shape. Endurance work may not prepare us for game speed.

Most high school athletes underfuel. They skip breakfast. Wait too long between meals. Show up to practice drained. That’s why @gdrosier & I built the REFUEL system. Simple. Memorable. Game-changing. Here’s the 6-part framework we use to teach fueling habits that stick 🧵

The unfortunate reality about the travel ball and camp system for high school sports is that it’s usually too late when parents realize their son/daughter would have benefited more from strength and speed development than playing 15-20 more games.

Probably tough for a lot of parents to read, but worth it. We’re losing way too many good coaches. “With high school coaches leaving the profession due to parental issues, it might be time for people to take a good look in the mirror and reflect.” mansfieldnewsjournal.com/story/sports/h…

Most high school weight rooms put a bar on a kids back on day 1 and just add load over time. No expectations for form, progressions, or managing load is established. This isn’t development, it’s negligence.
